avoiding hardware now since bought stuff lol

If that is the case, then your options are to try different pc power cords, different wall outlets, using shielded aux cables, testing different power strips, testing to see if a UPS fixes the issue, and testing all of the cabling and power to figure out where the static is coming from. I had ground loop issues with my speakers and using that isolater I linked above completely fixed all of my issues, and it is under $10. You just plug the isolater into the motherboard, and then the aux cable into the female end of the isolater, it's a very simple installation.

HI, I have experienced recently exactly the same problem. In my case I thought it was due to the mains, as the noise was present when using an external headphones amplifier which is powered through the mains. But then I tried using my USB DAC/amp as a pure headphone amp only (lineout of the PC connected and then power over USB) and the same noise was present, with possibly the ground loop going through the USB. The noise of course was not there if I was only connecting a DAC/amp over USB or the headphones directly on the PC, as there is no loop.

I think in your case you are creating a ground loop with your configuration, hence the noise.

I had to give up and find a decent ground loop isolator. To avoid cheapo things using bad audio transformers, I narrowed down my search on the Monacor FGA-40HQ. That removed the noise completely and the audio quality is transparent IMHO, which is what you want.

A device like this is about £15 here in UK. Don't get cheapo things as they might compromise your sound. And don't do any "earth lifting" on your devices to bypass similar issues as some suggest on the internet, as you would put yourself and others at risk when doing so.

Monacor make pretty nice budget stuff. Got a couple of their SA-50 amp's for testing stuff out on.

LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)
