well, i noticed that when i just use my computer normally, like browsing the internets and such. the gpu ramps up every now and then, seemingly randomly. is this normal? or should i investigate further?

here is a picture of the spikes:

+ they reach 75 c idle....

What about the idle temps? They just seem wierd to me....

Are you using stock cooler?

yup, im going to watercool them :) i just want to know that everything is fine before i watercool them.....

Well, i believe insane idle temps is quite normal with the stock cooler

The fluctuations are normal but 75c idle IS NOT normal. I have a reference design as well and mine drops to 40 or lower.

the R9 290/R9 290X are designed to operate in a much higher themal temperature than most graphics cards
