X570 Mobo Showdown: MSI X570 Gaming Edge WiFi or pay $90 more for ASRock X570 Tacichi?

Is it worth paying the $90 premium for the Tiachi? Or will the MSI do just fine? I can’t seem to find robust coverage on the MSI board. The Tiachi seems to generally have favorable reviews with marks against it for power consumption and fan noise? Again, can’t really find anything on the MSI. What say you ?

you will probably find the extra money is to pay nvidia to use SLI, and nothing much else, which is kind of the same on all x570 boards, as identical boards with crossfire only, are priced the same, then you have to pay more if you want SLI

Only considering these two?

They are very different boards, too far to compare. The edge is MSI's low end X570 board's final form, VRM is only good for the 12 core and not more (when maxed out), but it has all the features a standard home user might want (USB layout with a Type C port, Wireless connectivity, 6 SATA ports, 2 M.2 slots, bios flashback etc). The Taichi is Asrock's value for money flagship, cutting away unnecessary stuff on the Phantom X. Hence it still carries what an advanced user will want, say some RGB accents, more detailed debug system, 8 SATA ports, 3 M.2 slots, SLI support, a VRM that can overclock the 16 core with ease, Wifi 6 (ax) instead of Edge's Wifi 5 (ac) etc.

@Jurrunio Unfortunately yes, these are the only two options I have or I’d probably go with the TUF.

So, it seems like the Taichi has more value per dollar overall bc you are getting some of the high end trickle down — while still being reasonably priced, will give more cushion for future proofing with WiFi 6, etc, has decent expert coverage with generally favorable reviews; therefore, I should bite the bullet and spend the extra $90 dollars?

The MSI board would certainly satisfy my needs (novice level computer user), but I’m afraid to buy something with minimal coverage and little to no benchmarking and so I can’t quite determine its value per $.

Is this thought process “sound”?

mentioning the TUF WiFi board caught my attention. That's the one of the best deal on X570. It has the connectivity of the Taichi (in quantity), overkill current capability on overclocking the 16 core and lower price (at least I hope so). The weaknesses compared to the Taichi is the LED debug system (same as the Edge), and Realtek networking which is fine by me but not as good as the whole Intel setup on the Taichi.

Price will be the biggest factor here

imo it's too close in hardware from the entry level X470 and top B450 boards, that for the price you might as well use older chipset boards.

@Jurrunio

yeah I hear you. I really wish I had another option. With that said, theoretical gun to your head - you have to pick one of the two - which one?

Saw a review of budget X570 boards on Hardware Unboxed, the Gaming Edge WiFi tends to overheat and had absolutely the worst thermals compared to the other boards. I would suggest ponying up the extra cash for the X570 Taichi instead.....

the Taichi. I stuck to an 8 year old consumer flagship for all this time (2600K) and it aged quite well, and AM4 should age just as well if not better, considering you can still get the 16 core if you wanted to. If you are staying on one platform for that long, better get a better board. I do regret with my current board's toasty power delivery.
