So, my old Corsair Vengeance headset's battery is dying making it unusable without being plugged in at this point. I currently have the PRO variant and bought this one after positive experiences with the older, plastic constructed one. The plastic construction broke apart after about 3-4 years of use with giant cranium, so over the past 6-7 years I went through two by wear. I am not opposed to buying a new Vengeance, but I am interested in purchasing something that can last longer.

That being said, I am in the market for a new headset, but I really don't know the current market well. The headset I buy will be for general use such as games, music, and other media. I would prefer not to spend more than about $200-$250 on the high end. For audio equipment, the only thing I have is the onboard suite from the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard in my PC.

Some preferences and requirements are below:

1.) Comfortably accommodate a large head (to give a ballpark, I'm 6'7")

2.) I would vastly prefer a microphone attached to the headset

3.) The genres of games I play are varied, but I do play a decent amount of FPS games including Rainbow Six Siege

4.) I tend to listen to hard rock or heavy metal (examples: Pathétique by Accept, Kiss of Death by Dokken, Stargazer by Rainbow, 747 (Strangers in the Night) by Saxon)

5.) I'm not married to wireless, but I see it as a nice convenience

6.) I prefer fabric construction over leather or faux leather

If there are any questions you feel need to be answered before recommending something, please let me know.

Any recommendations to supplement my own research are greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

I've got the Arctis 7 myself and quite literally the only negative thing I've got to say is that it doesn't have the easily swappable batteries like the Arctis Pro (not that it's an issue seeing as it's fairly easy to get 2 days out of them with pretty heavy use).

Hey Fibberdipper what are your thoughts about stereo gaming HP's or 7.1 virtual surround ?  Wow 2 days is great.  I can't give input as my experiences with gaming headsets is Razer and we all know what we all think about Razer or at least me.  Nice cosmetics and that is about it imo.

Cloud 2's

Can't argue with you there its 7.1 virtual surround which is legit and you will hear sounds from behind you and beside you and in the corner or in front of you.  Surround 7.1 HP's have come a long way since the days where Razer was pretty much your only choice.  The Cloud 2's looks comfy and has premium features.  I cant talk about HyperX as I have no experience with any of their gear, but I trust Slottr and the price is really good.

Not quite sure what you mean by stereo considering that pretty much every headset with the exclusion of the ones included with Xbox 360s/Xbones is going to be stereo.

And virtual 7.1 can be incredibly hit and miss. I rather dislike Windows Sonic and what Steelseries has in their software (especially when I listen to music), but when I gave the Dolby Atmos trial a shot about a year ago I actually liked it, even when listening to music. Sonic and Steelseries' implementation had a fairly "constricted" soundstage, but Atmos was quite open, if that makes sense. Obviously Atmos doesn't hold a candle to true 7.1 or real Atmos, but for only having a 2.0 config at its disposal it was genuinely not bad.
