SSD Terminal Server Ideas

DrDrummer

Hey,

iam currently trying to improve our overall workflow at the company. Recently we virtualized all of our existing physical Servers to one ESXI Host with enough Power (20 Cores, 256GB RAM and an RAID5 with HDDs). System Performance is better than before. Great!

Now iam thinking about „outsourcing“ our Terminalservers(s) to an seperate ESXI Host to get better Performance for the Users in daily use.
My Thoughts are:

- An SSD RAID10 for a „snappy“ Look and Feel
- High Single Core Performance for the CPU
- About 32GB RAM per VM with 10-15 Users

- 10Gbit Connection to the other Vm-Host

Could we use older consumer grade Hardware for this Purpose? We are a small Company and Money Saving is a good argument to our boss.
Maybe something like 4770k for the CPU?

Someone with better ideas? Maybe i have to re-think the hole thing :)

best regards from Germany

Niklas
