Help Upgrading Alienware x51

Phantom775

Hi there, a couple months back I purchased an Alienware x51 for about $180, I know they suck, but it was a huge upgrade from my laptop, and plus it’s $180. The CPU is more expensive than that.

Anyways, I want to move it into a new case, upgrade it’s RAM and GPU, aswell as install a SSD for the OS, and the main steam program.

Issue is, I have no clue how to even look for parts. If someone wouldn’t mind helping, I’d really appreciate it.

The CPU is still pretty relevant (should be a 4th gen i7). RAM is DDR3, 8GB is enough for gaming, and 16GB is more than enough for it so if you already have 8Gb just save your money.

GPU you should look at getting a second hand 1060 6GB or RX580 for it and then you will have a really good performing 1080p gaming machine.

CPU Isn’t a concern lol, I was just using it as an example as how good $180 was for this pc. Okay on RAM, and will look at 1060 GPU. What about cases? I know it gets really hot in there since they crammed everything into basically a console. Forgot to mention also looking for a good PSU to upgrade to a new, more vented case since I doubt their little jank power brick will do

which X51 do you have? seems like there's at least 3 revisions.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

It’s just the regular one I think, it’s not R2. It has an I7 and 8 gigs of ram. 1 tb HDD

I7 3770, GPU is GTX 660. Just opened ccleaner accidentally and apparently ccleaner shows you that.

looks like the X51 has a regular M-ITX layout, so just get a new case and PSU and it should work.

The Q300L should work just fine. get a CX450/M instead of the evga W1, much better quality.
