My anwer may not be relevent since mine MOBO is Asus Maximus 11 Hero. But i beleive as a rival oligopoly competitor, MSI applys similar practices.

In order to succssfully flashback, the usb drive have to be insert at the dedicated bios flash back port. Plus your drive have to be clean, ( no redundant files except the bios file) , as well as to rename it to a specific string, after you download it from the official support center. ( in my case, i have to rename the bios file to M11HW.CAP, under the guildline of asus).

Once done, do not boot up untill the LES flashing on your BIOS flashback button stops.

I only recently flashed my first bios using a cpu-less process and it really isn't that scary, and now in the last month I've used it for 4 different builds. follow the process listed online or through their video and you shouldn't have any dramas.

When I flashed my gaming carbon I did have to flash it a few times for it to actually work, even though it appeared to be flashing the bios as expected.
