My first time at this forum thing. Please forgive and inform my errors.

I have noticed Google going to a "server not found page" when I use a VPN. It directs me to turn my VPN off. I can get to the page directly through the URL bar once I know what the URL is but to link through Google I get the error. I think Google is trying to discourage VPN use. This bothers me.

The question:

What is the best search engine now? Do they all do this now?

^ Yeh. What he said - what VPN do you use? It better not be a garbage cheap ass vpn from somewhere. Always go for the trusted bigbois such as Express and Nord. And maybe your DNS is leaking and that's why they're not trying to let you in because of the unsecured secured connection. You're basically an anti-vax kid to their eyes and won't grant you access.

PIA as recommended by Linus. It's just Google and only some links. It doesn't take me directly to the link from the google page. Instead it redirects to another page that presumably is looking stuff I don't want to share and it tells me the sites doesn't like poxies. But If I copy the url (not the big link, the little one), directly from google results, into the url bar it works fine. No redirect. No VPN issues. Google is clearly redirecting to pages that collect data, then passes you on to the actual link. I have run a DNS leak detector (can't remember the name but think I found it through glasswire or PIA) and it said I was fine in IPv4 and 6. It tested something else too and passed. My own ISP doesn't seem to recognize me when I try to stream their video through the VPN. What I'm really looking for is an alternative to Google. I'm trusting them even less now. Bing? No. Yahoo? Not sure. Any ideas? Does the same thing at a friends house who also runs PIA and Glasswire.

Just an FYI, the first time I tried this was googling "abes books." It's a used book store. Googles fine until I click on the big link. Then the error page. Copy the little url under the link in to the url bar and voila, Abes used books comes up no problem. Since then I have found many other links on google that do this but again, not all of them. Maybe adsense is a problem.

Funny. I just tested it and now it's not doing it. Maybe it's intermittent. Maybe other complained and they fixed it.

Thanks for the feedback. Cheers :)

UPDATE: FYI,

It was Google AdSense. The answer to my question turns out to be Duck Duck Go. Google's adsense pollutes search results and anything that has the little rectangle around the letters AD in the url are an adsense url and kick out an error if you are using a VPN. Duck Duck Go doesn't care, doesn't remember, doesn't report, doesn't pollute the search results. My new search engine.
