DIY Webcam

So I had an idea before I went to sleep that would rid my frustration of bad video quality from expensive webcams. My idea was getting a camera module, say from a old iPhone and trying to make it into a webcam. I mainly want to use it for video chats and just do not know how to go about starting this project. If you guys have any suggestions for what to do that would be great!

it might be quite hard with all the flex connectors that phone cameras usually have. I think you could use an old android phone for a webcam through an app but I don't think that's what you wanted to do is it?

Maybe a webcam from an old laptop or something? Most use the usb protocol so it shouldn’t be super difficult.
