Do I get a Chromebook?

Hi all,

I'm Interested in acquiring a Chromebook, however, I currently feel like a have two problems.

Available programs and RAM.

On my current laptop an ASUS vivobook s551b, for that I use for everything, is, of course, a widows machine.

The problem I feel is that I wouldn't be able to use the Cold turkey website blocker as well as the thunderbird email client.

And as chrome is usually RAM intensive would 4GB actually properly handle the chrome tabs.

The Chromebook I'm interested in, (Perth, WA Australia)

I do kind of feel the same as I have no experience with ChromeOS. However, I'd prefer a good screen and hardware ports.

I'd think something around 500-600 AUD cause I'd like to buy a proper desktop, later on, currently, I use my Laptop similarly to a desktop.

The laptop would be like just a portable machine for uni and when going on trips

  • 2 weeks later...

Keep in mind that Chrome OS is less ressource intensive then Windows so the 4gb of ram is more than enough.

Android apps and linus app support have also been added recently so most newer chromebooks will support them out of the box.

It really depends on what programs you will be using ?

A10-5800k, 8gb DDR3-1866, R9-270, 2x 500gb Hdd, 1x 1000gb Hdd
