So I have decided to upgrade from my old rig I have had for over 5 years. There is a few things that arn't on the list, Like the H100 v2 Cosair cooler and there is a Semi modular Power supply is a 750 Evga bronze, and some additional fans. Should I go a whole new build or use some of the older parts? I want to change the power supply because its semi modular, and I would like a different case.

I would like to keep it under 1500, I would like it to be able to run vr, I play games like Witcher 3, and R6 siege etc. If you guys could help me with a build that would be great, thank you for your time.

Given what you're coming from, I would basically start from scratch, maybe transfer over fans and HDD if you want to. Are you fanboying on anything that's out there right now, or do you just want the best price:performance you can get for your money? Are there any other limiting factors we should be aware of, like maximum monitor size? Are you happy with your keyboard and mouse? They're really decent but admittedly old.

Yeah, there are frankly no bad choices right now in graphics cards. They're all anywhere from fine, to amazing. I don't hate the GTX 1660 with or without the Ti. I love the RTX 2060 and 2060 Super for Value. The RTX 2070 Super is really good, but it's really expensive too. Frames per dollar are the best between $300 and $400, but you can't get everything at that money.

And you absolutely can re-use your liquid cooler, I forgot about it using my standard part set. Absolutely save that $60, but keep in mind, the pumps on AIOs will fail eventually.

Either the 5700XT or the RTX 2060 Super are the best value with more than enough performance for most people. You can save a couple of bucks on in if you really need to, but going lower will limit your performance, and going higher will probably cost you in other areas of your build where the money could be useful.

Either should do a good job, though there are higher end parts as well.

What VR rig do you have?

I like the 5700 XT as a concept, but so far we only have blower coolers available. I am personally waiting to see what happens price-wise when Sapphire drops a multi fan unit.

I dont have one I will be purchasing one at a later date I was thinking about the new oculus rift s but i have been reading alot of bad reviews. I don't have much space to work with. Would it be worth just throwing money at a pre built or should i still build my own. I have been looking at RTX and GTX diffrences but I'm not noticing too much difference. I have been out of the building game for a bit and this computer was my first build so Im not up to date on new cards and performances

Oh no. Build your own. Go with Ray Tracing over GTX if you can afford it.

The PS5 announced it's going to include an RT GPU, and the latest Unreal Engine basically has an on/off switch for developers.

RT is going to boom sooner or later.

I wouldn't blow $600+ on an occulus personally. I'd just get a better PC and a really nice big monitor. But I'm not a huge fan of VR as a concept, and the game support has only proven the things I consider problematic about it. They are tacky house of horrors or doofy FPS games almost entirely.

I'd do something like this in the current market. Use your old monitor for a bit and swap that out when you're ready. 1440p is getting cheaper and cheaper, and Freesync support on nVidia will only grow. I wouldn't rape the parts list to fit a decent monitor in.

When you're ready down the line, look at something like this:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fMcMnQ/asus-monitor-mg278q

Again, I think a year or so down the line we may be looking at good options at the $300 range.

As is, this one is 27" 1440p 144hz 1ms with Freesync. Solid option.

Intel wins in gaming. Even Zen 2 still just can't top the 9700K or 9900K. AMD is great in budget builds, workload PCs, and there's a lot of reasons they rule.

That said if this is a gaming only rig, and if the budget works... Grab an i7.

If you're going AMD, I would go Zen2 (3000 series.) It's a large step above the second gen. The R5 3600 is a solid value unit, and the more expensive 3700X and 3900X really don't game a whole lot better.

The BitFenix Gold I listed is a much more solid PSU than the G3 for cheaper. Newegg also has a 650W BitFenix Whisper (great unit, fully modular.) for $89. GREAT deal.

This builds looks good, whether you choose Intel or AMD, the two most recent generations will give you good results.

That depends largely on how you would plan to stream. There are a number of CPU bound streaming platforms like OBS which would require good thread communication. AMD is a good choice for these, although the 9900K is awesome for it too, being a 16t processor.

nVidia cards also offer something called Shadowplay (AMD cards offer something similar, but thus far it's just not been successful, which I believe is due to operational problems), which allows GPU bound streaming, and takes most of that workload off of the CPU. The 2070 Super would likely be a good candidate for something like that.

Ultimately look up some reference on CPU vs GPU bound streaming, and see if you can determine what you want to use for your needs. If the answer is OBS or a similarly CPU bound program, I'd grab maybe a 3700x or 9900K. If it's Shadowplay, I'd stick with a 9700K and an nVidia card.

Okay thank you should have the money soon and be able to build it. One last question. If I wanted to reuse my ssd and hdd would I need to reinstall windows or even setup the new computer? Or just boot it from the old ssd....

Also do I have to wipe the old drivers off if I use the old ssd? Or can i just install the new ones and it will overwrite.

You may need to contact windows to reinstate the windows license. If the mobo changes it will surely go inactive.

You should definitely remove the drivers

And in reference to the comment on CPU vs GPU based streaming, if you want clarity and high quality with consistency, and if you want to record/edit gameplay footage as well, then the CPU bound option is the better of the two. GPU bound is a good option for those who just want to throw something watchable out while they play.
