I was going to sell my old system http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2JVgQ to a friend for $700 and keeping in mind that its only 5 months old its not a bad price. The thing is that I had to already buy a hdd to get it running and just threw in the cheapest memory I could find so it would work. My plan was to purchase more memory later but considering that it is almost entirely for gaming I didn't think it would be all that necessary. Any thoughts? If i was to get memory it'd be soon because he wants it by Friday.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

Purchase more memory. Most games have started to use more than 4GB now.

like what?

I know BF4 can take up to 3 gigs by itself at times but he still has yet to buy it for himself.

if he wants to play BF4 he will need 8GB, if he plays older games or even some newer AAA games then 4GB is enough

I think what I'll do is give him the pc in its current state and when/if he buys BF4 ill go ahead and install another stick for free.

Not only the issue of RAM usage for games (BF4, COD:Ghosts, ARMA 3, etc.) but also the fact that he will have to close background programs (browsers, music players, PC monitoring, etc.) to use that 4GB optimally. Trust me, it's better for him to have 8GB+. Even the consoles have 8GB RAM total now. This itself will push games farther in requirements.

One of the things that makes me want to not bother is the fact that his fastest computer at the moment has only 2 GB...

get at least 6. i had to RMA some ram, and had to only use 4 gb. it was terrible experience. let me put it this way, i dont have a game open and my computer is using 5.41gb. so no. get 8 if you can. memory really isnt that expensive

My extremely modded skyrim uses 9gb. It isnt supposed to. There should be no way. It is just messed up. But 9gb nonetheless.

i dont think memory leaks should count. but rofl

every thjough about putting in that memory manager from nexus mods?

I could just be a bro and upgrade my memory and give him my old 16GB kit. Also while this thread is based on memory, would taking the heatsink off the vengeance pro's be hard or degrade performance/stability?

ok first of all 2 of those games u mentioned are poorly coded atm so they shouldnt really count  and COD actually uses about 1.5 as measured by people. but yea 8GB is nicer, i have 8GB and have a bunch of stuff open and its nice.

i was only asking what games (games alone) take up 4gb, im not arguing that he should/shouldnt get 8gb+

You should get 1333MHz 8GB. (Higher speeds make no noticeable difference, might as well get cheaper RAM.)
