I'm trying to justify dumping a bunch of money to swap out my 6600k to ryzen.

But my monitor is 4k. I have a 2070super backordered.

My noob question is this

I've seen benchmarks on the 2070super touching close to 60 fps in some games. If I lower a few settings and put an overclock on it I should be able to run 4k60fps.

But those benchmarks are on high end cpus. Is the 6600k at 4.5ghz going to affect me at that resolution?

yes, not by too much because a lot of the strain will be put on your gpu, but you will lose some performance.

if you switch to ryzen an r5 3600 will be sufficient

I don't think at 4k you'll be cpu limited, since that resolution puts a lot of work on the gpu

Damn, you guys are supposed to help me make irresponsible financial decisions.

I just saw this x470 motherboard I've been wanting went on sale so I want to give myself a reason.

I figured it would be something like that. I guess if I can wait a while then cpus and motherboard options and prices will get better.

If you do almost anything other than game, or run stuff in the background while gaming, you can totally justify a 6c/12t CPU over a 4c/4t.

4c/4t are starting to get less stable performance too

I ordered the motherboard because I’ve been wanting it for a while and it’s a deal.

The Hero VII? I had one (Hero VII Wi-Fi), they're really, really nice boards. Should be awesome with pretty much anything on the AM4 platform, it's got overkill VRMs for the 2000 series, should handle even the new 12 core with no issues.

Noice! Should be happy with it, only disappointment with mine was the CPU itself (2700X), I was into OCing for fun at the time and there's hardly any headroom on the 2000 series, IIRC the story is the same for the new chips too though.

Yea but the way I’m looking at it. I get an overkill board for a good bit less than a midrange x570 and no little fan to die.

I wont be using pcie4 for some time

Not just overkill specs, it's built extremely well and looks gorgeous. Being an ASUS mobo you get Aura sync too, which has the most support across the industry still if you wanna add more bling (stock the chipset and VRM heatsink-I/O cover combo have RGB on them, it's not in your face or anything). Used to run a full RGB setup for a bit with mine, it fits in very well with pretty much anything given it's a grey/black mobo with the lights off.

Some pics when I was messing with SLI (worked better on my intel stuff so I moved it over to there and eventually ran this with a Vega FE, even had it on a loop for a little bit):
