I have recently purchased a pc from one of my friends. It was a I7 4790K, MSI Z97 motherboard, 2x4 gb of 800 mhz and 2x2 mhz of 663 mhz ram, and a R7 200 series gpu. I had alot of trouble playing games on it due to the graphics card so I upgraded it to a Zotac AMP Geforce Rtx 2060 and I am still getting 20-30 fps in most games. I think that it is the ram but I wanted to make sure because when I check my system stats my CPU usage is normally 80-90% when I play games. Which I thought was high for such a high end cpu but I don't know really what is wrong with my build.

I'm no expert, but it's most likely your RAM. If it is the RAM, which I would consult another member before upgrading, try getting something like 4x8GB 3200Mhz or 2x8/2x16 if you only have 2 dimm slots. r/hardwareswap is a great place to get stuff cheap, and I have some spare 2x8 2666Mhz that I could sell to you.

Thanks for the advice. I figured it was the ram cause this is crazy slow just didn't know if that could be the cause of a cpu bottleneck.

np, glad I could help

Edit, in the off chance that you would've wanted the RAM I have, I'm afraid it's DDR4 :(

You sure you've got 800 and 663 RAM?  Where are you reading the speeds?  Z97 usually uses1333 and 1600 RAM, not 800 and 663.

3200MHz won't work on a Z97 board either.  Why are you recommending 32GB of RAM?

Also if its on a HDD then that is gonna make that system crawl.  I hope it has a SSD my friend.
