Hey guys i use a laptop when im just on the internet in bed and that but lately the laptop has gotten so slow, it freezes and glitches when i have a few tabs open especially when im on youtube however go back 8 months i was using the laptop for premiere just fine... its weird. So im just trying to remove all the bloatware which could be slowing it down. Should i remove mcafee and replace it with avg or something or will it not create much difference. Ive virus scanned the laptop many times, use ccleaner regularly etc

My advise if you arent being too stupid on the internet you need three things

Malewarebytes pro edition

any free anti virus, i use security essentials

Web of trust(this flags bad shit so you dont have to deal with, all the twats on teamspeak can no longer link me to 420yolo)

laptop is pretty shitty but its got a relatively weak i5 (i forget the name i think its like 550m or something idk), when it freezes my cpu fan ramps up and task manager shows my cpu at 100% which makes the laptop unusable until it calms down ahha and lastly it has mcafee installed onto it

it flags it up but if you in a dont give a fuck mood then you can get past, its simple green: good site, yellow: no rated yet or mixed opinion and red is GTFO NOW, its user rated so they dont block porn sites, just look at the comments on some of them sites, they are hilarious. At the moment its a community of strong IT guys so i havent run into trolls yet.

Can you check in processes tab which process uses your CPU on full load during the freeze?

I'm not sure of course, but McAfee might be the reason. I'd suggest you try different antivirus, like Avast for example & see if this problem occurs again, but as I already said, before check in processes page which process consumes your CPU.

the processes are all these weird host processes for windows taking up most of the memory. Because its a school laptop there are weird programs hidden in files where your whole laptop updates all data to the school database when on wifi at school, yes people get in trouble for pr0n ahha. But i disabled one of the processes which when i googled turned out to be a program where files upload to a database used in many schools and offices

a school laptop

I'm also in Sydney and probably in the same situation as you. I've got the 3rd generation of the Department issue ones (green); I don't know which one is yours and whether you have a Department issued one or not. I know the performance is absolutely atrocious in the first 3 generations; the 4th and 5th aren't too bad.

The freezes are probably due to the hard drive protection system that is built in. You'll find this occurring when you're on your bed because the system detects movement and when it does, it will stop the hard drive from spinning, leaving you with a sort of frozen computer. Another reason is probably the heat as it cannot dissipate as well when it's on a cloth surface that has a chance of folding up and blocking the air vents.

Pretty sure he meant your Systemtray icons next to the clock not your taskbar shortcuts.

Any of those, that can be run as a single shortcut would be best...

The loading of these applications "when you need them" as a desktop icon or elsewhere instead of automatically loading at startup (whilst using more memory to do so)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

that has also been cut down a lot, it was around that time where i discovered more about security and stuff that effects speed etc, my pc is a lot cleaner and easier on the eyes now.

Not that you are stupid but Mcafee is the worst program you could possibly have, yes I would advise replacing it with AVG and leaving AVG on its optimal defaults.  AVG actually uses a caching system to speed up boot times, video playback and other tasks.

its bad... its one of the worst ones out there.

Yes I can see that people have written that. But I'd like some elaboration. In the 6+ years of using McAfee (well more like 7 now), I've never had a problem with it. It's unobtrusive, detects malware well, has a very good firewall, and doesn't impact on the computer much. I've gone through several computers since installing McAfee for the first time, none of which I have any complaints about.

1. Mcafee is bad at blocking zero day malware.  Turn off its signature blocking and anything will get past it!

2. Mcafee is bad at blocking malware in general.  If you try to pass Mcafee with 24 hour old malware, which is standard for antivirus testing. You'll find Mcafee will find like 30% which is bad

3. Mcafee is heavy, I dare you to run AVG for a couple days.  You will notice such a difference especially on lower end computers.  Mcafee is known for being heavy.

4. Its expensive, its expensive for what you get.  You get a horrible security suite that takes up lots of system recourse for one of the highest prices of antivirus in the world.

5. It leaves junk, If you remove Mcafee you will NEED a registry cleaner because it leave so much junk you need one.  Once I uninstalled Mcafee, there was over 2GB of leftover files and over 300 registry errors from Mcafee.

6. Even John Mcafee (the Founder of Mcafee) begged Intel to give up Mcafee and he even made several videos on how he hates his own product.  You cant get anymore truth than that.

7. Its browser addon sucks, it hogs down your browser and blocks barley anything.

8. Its filled with errors. Once on a customer PC... after a Mcafee update the system wouldn't boot.  After a reinstall and a install of AVG, everything worked fine.
