Hey Guys.  I'm pretty much at my wits end with my system.  I started to encounter crashing problems last fall.  I've run my system in safe mode with DDU to get rid of the possibility of conflicting drivers.  I've removed potentially conflicting hardware set up in Windows Device Manager.  I've tried every trick in the book and NOTHING I've tried is preventing these aggravating crashes.  Tonight, as I write this, I've had my system crash three times while watching videos and playing on SecondLife.  The screen freezes for a few seconds and then crashes, forcing me to reboot.  If I'm watching a video or playing a game, I'll still get audio after the video crashes.  I ruled out a faulty video card as my MSI RTX 2070 Gaming Z card is brand new.  I've only had that a few weeks and it works fine.  I've also begun to wonder if my hardware is just getting old.  My motherboard is an ASUS Rampage IV Extreme with an i7-4820K overclocked to 4.3 GHz.  I also have Corsair Dominator Platinum memory at 1866 MHz.  My motherboard is 5 years old and CPU is about 3 years old.  Could it be that I'm bottlenecking the graphics card with my old motherboard or that the graphics card simply isn't getting enough power or bandwidth?  Is Windows the culprit that's causing these crashes?  If it's my old hardware, I'm really considering changing out my X79 system for the Z390 platform.  Any troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly helpful.  Thanks.

I have three WD Blue HDDs used for storage.  One is used for temporary file storage, the second is used for long term file storage and the third is empty.  The drives are three years old and I haven't heard any abnormal sounds coming from them.  My boot drive is a Samsung 860 EVO SSD.

Ahh gotchya, I was just looking at your specs on your profile, an ssd wouldn't give you mechanical failure like that obviously. There's so many things it could be, only thing you can do is unplug everything one by one. That motherboard doesnt have onboard video or I would say try that without the 2070. Some of the earlier 2070s had memory issues as well, if you have another graphics card to try might rule that possibility out as well.

Again, it could be your PSU failing on you since it didn't deliver enough power to your GPU. If it's a blue screen at times then it might be your RAM.

Even if your GPU is brand new I'd say you should not rule it out just yet since I've had my fair share of new GPUs failing on me, better get that RMA'd ASAP if that's the case. Any chance you can check your parts with another system?

I have a spare Corsair HX850 I can swap out if that's the case.  I have not had any blue screen crashes and my memory is checking out fine.  My MSI GTX 2070 Gaming Z replaced my GTX 1070 FE card which I previously believed was faulty.  That changed my opinion on it since I'm experiencing crashes even with this new card installed.  Temperatures on the PSU are around 52*C with 88% efficiency.  I'll swap the PSU out and see what happens.
