The Loot Box problem

Anyone think it would be healthy for our tech YouTubers to get on the "spread the word" bandwagon and do some videos discussing them? Now i know they generally avoid drama but i think this goes above that. They themselves no doubt have kids, friends and even themselves that are/could be affected by these and i think we are reaching a point that positions should be stated and awareness increased.

honestly, I don't really see a super high problem with loot boxes. If they are children, then their parents shouldn't let them spend so much, and if they are adults, then they should have self control. Any adult can buy a cigarette or a juul or a lottery ticket, we don't start outlawing those?

true, but they are manipulating people without the standards the things you mentioned are subjected to. Remember the parents may not understand what the kids are doing. its imprinting a gambling habit they would not be otherwise subjected to.

I see what you are talking about, what do you suggest as a solution?

I play CSGO, its heavily influenced by skins, but if they removed them and lootboxes, I'd get pretty mad

its not a removal in CSGO, its a broader awareness of whats going on. I dont have a solution at this stage all i have is a problem that needs addressed. Remember the scam with CSGO skins? its a bit like that but on a corporate scale but its not being addressed.

They get paid to spread the news about loot boxes, most of them are fake reviews.

This is bit hard topic. Many creators doing gaming stuff already take paid sponsorship contracts with F2P games. Its would be hard decision to make. Either practice what you preach, or take the money and talk shit about those who pay you. If one picks latter, they get caught quickly, and internet never forgets.

 

This same things applies to so many other things. There are so many things wrong with tech, advertising, YT, politics etc. And creators with millions of viewers have great responsibility. Sadly, as many have started their careers as teens, some may not have even followed news and media beyond what their own group of friends has been sharing. So they don't have ability to see how their own actions, opinions and especially way they communicate things (verified truth vs opinion on something) would effect on more major scale.
