So, I finished my hardware building of my home server and installed Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS. Everything works fine, installed the Ubunutu desk-top for a GUI and then I googled for the proper way to turn everything off and typed in sudo poweroff.

Slid in the graphics card so I could use a different screen instead of the VGA one I was required to use because Mobo only has stock VGA, plugged in power for card.

Try to turn on and boot. Lights on motherboard light up, but no boot and no fans. So I google and troubleshoot via these common solutions:

  • Turn the power off and unplug, wait for a time. Doesn't help.
  • Check all power cords to make sure they are seated correctly. Doesn't help
  • Reseat Ram. Nope
  • Turn power off and unplug all power cords from everything, pull out the video card, reseat ram, do not put VC back in. still nothing
  • Check and see if turning it off somehow fried the CPU, looks fine.

Other relevant pieces of information:

I am still assuming it is a hardware issue unless somehow the poweroff command is different than I thought it was?

--------------

Edit:

Solved, the PSU's poor little heart gave out after a single boot.
