So I found a 1060 6gb recently on a listing so i went ahead and bought it. It has an issue where the screen started flickering so the guy was selling cheap at around 45 bucks. I put it in and sure enough it did its glitching and all. But after a restart everything was ok strangely. I fired up the BeamNG.drive and overclocked it. It was able to hit 106fps on max which is pretty nice.

After chucking it aside for 2 weeks i swapped it into my pc and was met with a black screen. Using my integrated graphics i saw that device manager gave a code 43 and the error status or something was 0000002B. Using DDU and reinstalling the latest drivers did nothing. In between the span of 2 weeks i only updated to windows 10 version 1903.

I opened up the card today and to my amazement, it was choking with dust and the thermal paste was literally dust which i cleaned off. It looked kinda black and weird honestly. Would this be causing the issue with the display? The pc doesnt seem to post properly with it either. Normally my keyboard would light up during the post stage and then turn off while booting before turning on again. But it doesnt turn on until like 10 seconds later which is funny. I have comfirmed the card is legitimate. The die stated GP106-400-A1.

I dont have thermal paste at the moment but i was wondering if i should get it. I honestly dont feel like going to a store an hour a way just to get it lol

First of all: Yes, buy thermal paste.

Second, the card likely overheated. I've never heard of thermal paste blackening before, but the large amount of dust would indicate being run hard with no maintenance.

I'd clean it, replace the paste, and cross your fingers. (And remove the OC).

Screwdriver specs: Long, pointy. Turns things. Some kind of metal.

Is there a possibility that the card would shut itself off before being able to post? Bacause this seems to be the case when I put it in. Otherwise I’m kinda worried that it suffered some kind of permanent damage. Code 34 seems to be fairly common but the code 0000002B doesn’t seem to pop up that much. These 2 are the only codes that I have.
