Hi guys , I have a computer that once was turned off by the wall by a friend of mine because he didn't know what to do when I left it on,now when I turn it on it says "preparing automatic repairs" , " diagnosing your PC" , "repairing disk errors, this may take over an hour to complete" then restarts itself to do the same thing over and over, I did leave it for over 27 hours to do its thing but no luck. Some people say do a reinstall of windows 8 but I don't know how I would do that while it's in this repair loop.

you should try this

  1. After Automatic Repair fails to repair your PC, select "Advanced options" and then "Troubleshoot".
  2. Select "Advanced options" and then select "Command Prompt".
  3. If prompted, enter in the password for the user name.
  4. At the Command Prompt, go to the \windows\system32\config folder by typing the following command: cd %windir%\system32\config.
  5. Rename the System and Software registry hives to System.001 and Software.001 by using the following commands:
    ren system system.001
    ren software software.001

NOTE: Renaming the Software hive will not allow you to use the "Refresh your PC" option. If you want to use the "Refresh your PC" option, only rename the System hive. If the Software hive is also corrupt, you may not be able to use the "Refresh your PC" option.
  6. Type "exit" without the quotes to exit the Command Prompt and reboot the PC back to the Automatic Repair screen.
  7. After selecting "Advanced options" and then "Troubleshoot", select either "Refresh your PC" or "Reset your PC".

F8 or Shift-F8 has been removed in Windows 8. To get there, you need to unsuccessfully boot Windows 8 3 times.

The reason why it was removed is that with modern systems, it is impossible to be fast enough to catch the moment where you press the F8 key to catch Windows to show the Safe Mode menu. Even if you press and hold the F8 key as soon as you power on, the default keyboard repeat rate is too slow.

Modern computers can start Windows 8 (to desktop) from power button in less than 6 sec (we already start seeing 4sec systems now), and that could get faster over time with fast SSD's.
