I few months ago I built a PC with a Z390-A Pro motherboard and Corsair 3000MHz DDR4 Memory (CMK16GX4M2D3000C16).

Since then I've been only getting ~2132MHz and couldn't figure out why. I found out today that this exact model is not compatible with my motherboard and that I need the slightly more expensive model (CMK16GX4M2B3000C15) instead. Here is the list of compatible RAM models: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/Z390-A-PRO#support-mem-3

Is there no way I can get the 3000MHz out of my current model? Why do these two models both come up when you search for "Corsair 3000MHz DDR4" on Amazon/Aria PC and why does only one work with my motherboard? ?

Thanks for any help on this.

You have to go into the BIOS and enable XMP. By default, Intel defaults RAM to 2133.

I thought this may be the case, but if I enable XMP my PC will show an error message on boot, saying:

"All settings were reset to default values.

The previous overclock settings have failed, system has been restored to its default settings.

Press F1 to run setup.

Press F2 to load default values and continue."

I can't get past this error, leading me to believe my motherboard doesn't like my RAM model.
