Replace CPU?

Is it okay to replace the CPU in a pre built desktop? I own a Alienware Aurora and have been wanting to upgrade from my poor i5-7400. Thinking about moving to a i7-8700k. Is it safe to do this?

the 8700k won't work with your current alienware rig, it'll work with a 6700k/7700k at best but unless the motherboard allows for overclocking get the locked i7.
