Hi there,

I need some advice on what components would be compatible and somewhat in line with the  other parts of my system. I'm planning to upgrade the gpu, os, cpu air cooling and get an SSD. The old gpu and os are going to another build I'm making for work along with some extra parts that I have. My current build is as follows:

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz with stock cooling and clocks

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 768MB

POWER: XFX Core Edition 750W

MB:Asus P8Z77-V LK

RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz

CASE: Fractal Design Define R3 Black Pearl

HDD: WD 1tb

OS: Win 7 Home premium

Budget & Location

Budget is around 900€ or so. If there's some real sense in going over that I could consider using a bit more but I doubt there is. Location is in Finland.

2. Aim

System is mainly used for gpu and cpu intense gaming. I'm planning  to oc the cpu as well once I get better cooler on it. Hopefully the system will be used until the prices of 4k monitors come so low that there's any point in buying those and at that point I'll probably have to make another bigger update.

3. Monitors

1 full HD monitor so far. Bigger resolutions later on but no need for multiple displays.

4. Peripherals

Planning on getting a win 8.1 for the updated build. (not included in the budget)

5. Why are you upgrading?

Game performance is getting poor with newer games, want more speed to the system and a more silent build. Probably HDD and CPU fan that make most of the noise now.

Components I've been planning to get are nVidia 700 series gpu and around 250gb SSD. I have one air cooler in an older build fron a realative but I don't know if it'll fit this current one. If not I might get a Noctua tower of some sort.

Any and all advice is welcome! :)

You should be fine keeping your current cpu and motherboard, you still can't get much better than a 3570k for gaming. For a cooler a Hyper 212 Evo would probably be the best budget option. I personally don't see any real reason to upgrade to Windows 8 over Windows 7, but if that's what you want to do go for it I guess.

I would say get a Hyper 212 EVO, GTX 780/770 4GB, get an Intel, Samsung or Corsair SSD in 250-256GB (whichever is cheapest) and Windows 8.1.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Txh for the tips. I decided to get a bigger SDD though and ended up getting the following list:

Samsung 500GB 840 Evo Series SSD-kiintolevy 2.5", SATA III, Basic                                                              231.00 €

MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX780 Twin Frozr 4, 3GB DDR5 , 2xDVI/HDMI/DP, PCI-E 3.0 + Assassins Creed IV     492.90 €

Noctua 120 x 120 x 25 NF-S12A PWM 1200rpm Öljylaakeroitu laitetuuletin 17.8dB                                         19.90 €    x2

Noctua Prosessorijäähdytin, NH-U14S, LGA/115x/2011/AM2(+)/AM3(+)/FM1/FM2*                                          69.90 €

Microsoft Windows 8.1, 64-bit, ENG, DVD, OEM                                                                                               107.00 €

Without the windows 8.1 and the two extra case fans I'm looking at 883.80 € so pretty much at my budget. Do you think the build will be balanced and if not, where's the inbalance at?
