Uncertain on card

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Yes and especially if it's cheaper than the 780.

Originally  I had planned to get something like an ASUS GTX 770 which is around $560 NZ but then I started pondered what kind of monitor I wanted to aim for and started debating 1080p vs 1440p which made me start looking at more powerful cards like the 780.

Then I saw the benchmarks for the Sapphire Tri-x R9 290 and saw it was cheaper than the 780.  This weekend I could get it the 290 for $700 NZ, as opposed to the 780 for around $750 NZ.  I've never owned an ATI card but i'm tempted at the price.  Might also change my plans for a case too since I've noticed its an extremely long card.

Is the jump to ATI worth it?

If its cheaper than a 780 grab it in a heartbeat :P They are pretty much the same in performance, and that is one awesome cooler.

I'd suggest you to go with NVIDIA if you're looking for performance complimented with features, AMD if you just want raw gpu processing power with no frills.
