Currently running the below

R5 case

I think its a p77 asus mobo which was a z series Pro if i recall

Intel 3570K

8gb ram

500gb sata SSD

GTX980 (latest upgrade)

1. Budget & Location

I am located in the GTA and looking to spend 750 or so on an upgrade.

2. Aim

This PC is mainly used to game Far cry 5, Shadow of Tomb Raider etc. As well as watch video and web browsing. Nothing for video editing or graphic design or modeling.

3. Monitors

Currently i have 1 monitor which is 1440p.

4. Peripherals

I have mouse/keyboard and windows license.

5. Why are you upgrading?

Mostly want to upgrade due to age and i think i am getting CPU bottle necked with my older CPU and or ram. When browsing and gaming i often am running very high ram usage. Often multi tasking with a game open.

Based on the above i think i should replace my CPU and MOBO and upgrade to 16 gb of ram. I think i am probably ok with the 980 being a few generations old and upgrading in a year or two from now.

Any thoughts an input is much appreciated!

my advice is to overclock the living hell out of your cpu to make it last a few more months until the next gen ryzen processors come out this summer. Then get one of those. My brother is doing this with his old 4770k rig

i7-8700k @ 4.8Ghz | EVGA CLC 280mm | Aorus Z370 Gaming 5 | 16GB G-Skill DDR4-3000 C15 | EVGA RTX 2080 | Corsair RM650x | NZXT S340 Elite | Zowie XL2730

This upgrade path is for if you want to upgrade now, waiting for the new Ryzen chips is a good idea, so far everything we've heard about them is pretty promising. But here is a decent upgrade path you can take. The i5 is perfect for your uses and would work well with your 980, and won't have an issue with really any other card you plan to use in the future when you upgrade it. I was going to recommend a 9700k with your budget but that CPU would be bottlenecked by your 980. I would put a current ryzen build together but Zen2 is just to close for me to recommend anything from zen1 right now.
