Is the used market off the table? What is your goal for resolution?

For $300 the 1070 ti is within your grasp

Edit: btw, PSU matters. If you got a cheapo unit, some graphics cards would be off the table.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Under 300 and outperforms everything in that price range. Also has a good cooler design too. Can't get any better than this for under 300.

The Red Dragon mentioned above is also good if you're willing to spend a bit over 300.

The used 1070Ti would be a touch more powerful, but I would still argue for the Vega since it's gonna come with all the new part benefits and will trade blows.

This could also put you in the range of a monitor upgrade in the future if you so choose! The Vega 56 or the 1070Ti are certainly 1440p worthy.

That Sapphire model does have a nice listed clock speed :)

Then you'll be shredding 1080p frames, my dude.

You could drop down and sit comfortable on an RX 570 or 580 8GB if you wanted to save some cash.

They are doing well with 1080p currently, but we will see how that holds up on next years or 2021's titles...

I'm happy with my RX 580 8gb

I will reiterate that there isn't guaranteed longevity with those if you want ULTRA settings. Some of the newer titles are already kicking its ass in that regard. In that way, the Vega 56 would be a better buy. It's a big step up in power.

If you're fine with HIGH/VERY HIGH settings now, and possibly going down to medium for future titles as they grow... It's a great deal!

This one has a pretty dang good cooler and core clock for the cost.

If you don't mind the cooler making more noise to keep up, this 590 is more powerful (actually a really nasty core clock there!) without costing too much more.

sound for me doesnt matter since my case wont be in an open spot that i would hear it nor my mic so yeah.

I have had the itch to upgrade as you really can't pump up the pixel density and post processing, but it hasn't deterred from the experience.

Honestly, jumping in now via the Rift S with that setup is not a bad idea as all of the heavy hitting Oculus VR titles do run great on the 580.

1060 is in the same performance camp as an RX 580.

Both do the job well. You won't be able to up the pixel density and graphics quality settings in the more demanding games, but it does play everything well with no real issues.

However, if you are buying a graphics card TODAY, there is no reason to not go for an RTX 2060 or a Vega 56 on sale. Both will yield significantly better performance in VR. I bought my RX 580 8GB for $225 super on sale in Fall 2017. With Vega 56s on sale for $300 today, I would have spent the extra $75 for that.

By that time, I would imagine an RTX 2060 / GTX 1660ti / Navi Equivalent will be the way to go in that price range.

I am curious to see what Navi brings to the table.

Navi is the architecture for the new AMD Radeons that will ultimately replace the Polaris (RX 500 series) and low end Vega series (56/64), supposedly.

We don't know much yet, but they are supposed to be announced soon!

16 cores on existing AM4 will be another game changer if true.

I built my buddy a content creation rig centered around X470 + 2700X, so that'll be a big bump for him for sure.

As is, we are looking to bump him to 64GB of RAM as After Effects will use it now that he is doing more complex workloads.
