Hello.

Every year i go to an event called The Gathering. I'ts a huge LAN with over 5000 people, concerts, competitions, workshops, classes etc. You bring your own computer, get a spot and most people build shelves to make the most of the space as its just 80*55cm. Ive attached some photos of this years shelf and my part of it. We made two shelfs for 2 people each. The downside to these shelves is the amount of space they use, so we need to load em up on a trailer. Also no one has the space to store them later so we throw them away when we leave (they have a recycle container for wood there and we remove the few metal parts it has).

What ive been thinking is making a one person shelf, that has a computer inside it. Like i tried to illustrate below. Computer goes into the top part behind the panel. The front part would be for drinks and food.

Not sure what to build into it though. I have a decent computer now with a 1080 and a 8700k. And a second system with a 960 and a 3820. Was thinking maybe just put the second system into it. But that would kinda be a waste for a thing thats gonna be used once a year. So i thought id get a third system and just swap my 1080 into it for the event.

Thoughts?

PS: I didnt make holes in the illustration for cooling and cables, because this was my first time using the SketchUp program.

So something along the lines of what these guys brought along.

Its a segmented shelf put together to make that. Sorry for the poor photo.

There is this white easy to bring shelf that you see literally everywhere at TG.

Think its from Ikea, no idea actually.

Their shelf is way to big and intricate and I want my own standalone thing. The Billy from Ikea is not what im after. i want to build it myself and to have it be a complete system with the computer built into it.

Id try going for somrthing modular. Use wooden "nails" to slideonto. If you want somethign really compact you can screw the components to the shelf itself. Have mobo screws, etc.

Not having to bring a case allows for a lot more room for stuff and food.
