Hey guys,

I'm here with another build this time, you can check it out here:

The parts here are pretty much final, however, any suggestions are welcome. But I'm not here for the parts, but instead the cables. I want a little cable modding in this system, mainly cable extensions and combs. Questions: which cable mods do I need? (one 8-pin, one 6-pin, one 24-pin? I'm not sure what I need) PSU cables? Cable combs? Other stuff I need? Finally. in total, how much would everything roughly cost? Hope somebody can clear my queries.

Thanks in advance

By the way, which brands should I look at? I'm currently considering CableMod.

Cablemod is nice, you need them for any cable you'd see.  Motherboard cables and GPU cables at the minimum.

Also, why didn't you go 9900K?  I honestly wouldn't pair anything else with a 2080Ti if you're going with a $1200 GPU.  I mean, you spent $200 in Rainbow Brite fans, why not another $80 for the best mainstream CPU currently out?

That said, the Aorus Xtreme is one of the cheaper 2080 Tis. Do you really think a 9900K is necessary? I don't see it, this PC is mainly for gaming. Trying to keep the budget as low as I can go here.

P.S. What colours/theme should I use for the lighting of this PC? It might help with the choice of cable colours.

Your GPU takes 2 8-pin connectors, you need to research your parts.  I don't know what the Cablemod sets cost, you can find them at www.cablemod.com or on Amazon.

I just spit tea out of my nose.   You're looking at over $3200 for a PC build with a $1300 GPU (it's midrange in price) and $200 in lighted fans.... and you want to keep cost down?   Your PC isn't about cost or worth, it's balls out.

Yes, the 9900K is worth a 3% increase in your total PC cost.

If you want to talk about worth it, you don't need a 2080Ti for 1440p 144Hz at all either.  You're way overboard on this thing for gaming, for example the colored fans aren't going to increase FPS at all while the 9900K will :)  The 970 EVO is a waste for gaming as well.

Hey, it's your money to spend any way you want.  I just want you understanding fully what you're spending it on is all.

All right, I realised this is found on the product page on Gigabyte's website, thank you very much!

Then what CPU, GPU and SSD do you recommend? I kinda like having my games at constantly about 200-250 FPS, looks really good and smooth. However, my number 1 priority is looks/acoustics. It is going to be on my desk the whole time, I really want it to look good.

Well, since you only have a 144Hz monitor, having FPS that high is a bit overkill don't you think?   I think you'd be more than fine with a 2080 or a used 1080Ti for 144Hz gaming with that 9700K or a more thread 8700K OC.

But if you want 200+ fps truly...Like I said, I would up to the 9900K for a measly bit more.  Then I'd just rock the Intel 660p, Crucial or Western Digital SSD's in the 1TB size for the same price as that 500GB 970.

They're all going to feel the same speed, so it doesn't matter.  The file sizes you're accessing transfer at the same rate on SATA or NVMe drives.  Get more room for more games, is my theory.

If you want better looks for your RGB, did you look at the Lian Li 011 Dynamic?  I think that's a good looking case for desk sitting.  The Phanteks is cool, it's all subjective for looks really.

Others may have better experience tho… like @LukeSavenije or @Princess Cadence.

Haha, thanks a lot! You've helped me and the community countless times before and I really appreciate that! As for the build, everything seems fine, except for the cooler (I want an AIO, but no worries on that I'll just change it myself), and the storage options. Is that SSD going to be fast enough for all my games and files? By the way, I feel the 8700K is going to be a bit too little for the 2080 Ti...

most people don't need a 9900k, 8700k for gaming with a 2080 ti would be great. heck, I'd trust a 9600k with it

That's why I chose the 9700K, but is it too overkill? What about the SSD? Isn't 500GB enough? My current laptop has 256GB and I barely use half, which is why I feel 500GB should be enough.

8700k is actually better in a lot of cases. you can get a 500gb if you want to. keep in mind the p1 is qlc tho

See, I agree with the 8700K with the 2080Ti only when you're trying to just fit that 2080Ti into the build.  If you're going to spend $3200+ on a build tho, it has to have a 9900K in it.

256 and only using half?  Are you only playing one game?  That's a lot of money for one game, damn.

Well, I’ve seen many completed builds on pcpartpicker that cost wayy over $3500 and they have a 9900K and a 2060, calling it a PC for gaming. Aren’t the priorities toppled? Shouldn’t the GPU be the main concern for gaming builds? I’m sorry, I still do not quite understand the need for a 9900K while saying a 2080 Ti is overkill for gaming.

Well, no. I play Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege, Osu, a little Geometry Dash, and CS:GO sometimes. My laptop also stores some working stuff and a few coding files, and that’s roughly 130GB. Welp, how do people even find 3TB not enough?

the 8700k has 4 more threads, and generally does better in games. no more, no less

threads are like hands, cores are like mouths

two hands per mouth=hyperthreading=faster

the 9700k has one hand per mouth=slower than two hands

it comes short to the 8700k in many games

qlc packs more memory per chip, but can be slower than even some sata drives when handling bigger writes than the built in cache can hold

so you can pack more data cheaply with qlc, but it can be a little slower sometimes

However in some tech videos, like Paul’s Hardware and Gamer’s Nexus, they have done some benchmarking on both CPUs and found the 9700K better for games, although a little more expensive. Can you explain why? It’s kinda like 2 different infos coming in right now.

As for the SSD, you said that it is a little slower. Is the speed downgrade significant/substantial or should it be ignored as it won’t have a noticeable impact on games?

There's no way a $3500 build should have a 2060 in it, unless it's a $900 ultrawide monitor and lots of storage.

threads are like hands, cores are like mouths

two hands per mouth=hyperthreading=faster

the 9700k has one hand per mouth=slower than two hands

it comes short to the 8700k in many games

By the way, how much cooling is enough? I have always had a fetish for 360mm radiators, but is it truly necessary?

If you're OCing a 8700K, 9700K or 9900K, a 360mm is good to have.  You can do a nice air cooler, but a 360 works nicely.

I got tired of swapping out games due to space issues.  Plus, Ark is over 260GB alone with all the mods.  I have Diablo 3, Fallout 76, Lord of the Rings Online cuz I pop in once in a while, etc.

It's 2 1TB 860 EVO's.  SATA SSD :)

I've always like the Kraken series from NZXT because of their amazing block design! However, none of them come with RGB fans, so I looked at COrsair. Unfortunately, the only 360mm AIO they had did not have RGB fans, only their 280mm and below did. I don't really want to spend an extra 100 bucks just for the fans even though they are really good and worth it, so what do you suggest? Do I grab a 280mm, or just bite the bullet and buy the fans for a better look?

Damn. That's a lot of storage for one game, I suppose. You see, Overwatch is only about 10GB, and CS:GO even lesser. Is M.2 necessary for my use case? TBH, it's just a little more, I suppose...

First, you may be confusing M.2 with NVMe.  M.2 is just a size.  SATA SSD's come in 2.5" size (like a laptop drive) or the M.2 size (bubble gum stick).

NVMe drives only come in M.2 size.

So I am suggesting a SATA SSD, pick 2.5" or M.2 size for it.  I went M.2 for my 860 EVO's so they just fit on the motherboard nicely.  That part is completely your call.

This may help...

A 280mm AIO will be enough for cooling, a good compromise in size and cooling.  It's equivalent to a high end air cooler, but if it has the RGB you want... get it.  You're paying a bit more for the same cooling vs a good air cooler but it has the benefit of sleek design and RGB fans you want.  It will work.
