Hello! So my brother is having problems with his laptop. He's 12 and I am 15, we don't know too much about tech (I know how to build a computer and such and troubleshoot a lot, but when it comes to software I am about as useful as your grandma is for the most part) and for some reason his function key isn't functioning properly ?‍♂️

We tried getting the Samsung easy installer or something like that from the official site (most download links were dead, had to get a random direct link) but we tried running the setup, the program was granted administrator permission and ... it opened and then immediately closed. So yeah, we really don't know what to do. Here's the setup and what it comes up as in Minecraft when he presses the key if for some reason that might help.

I am able to provide any more info you guys might need. This happened after we reset the computer (it was inactive for a couple of years, couldn't find a charger for it because it wouldn't turn on and the product name was worn off of the bottom of the laptop)

Was the computer reset through/with Samsung's utility or did you use Windows's built-in feature ? Or perhaps you've used the ISO?

If you've used Windows's built-in Reset feature... Just do a complete format, the reset feature doesn't work as well as advertised, it leaves a lot of garbage behind and any issues you may have had with drivers will persist as well.

If you've used Samsung's utility... Was it through the Windows application or by pressing a key at startup to enter recovery mode?

If you've formatted with the ISO from a USB drive/disc... Well ignore all the above because everything should've worked when you tried installing the driver. Have you tried using their Samsung update software?

From what I could find, I'm guessing your laptop is the "NP270E5E" ?

Weird, I do not know how to do this. I will look it up but doesn't that also erase your OS?

NOPE, you'd think that right?

Microsoft f*cked that one up. What it really does, is essentially just delete your softwares and documents... but it doesn't actually clean itself up... Because there's no "clean" OS folder anywhere on your PC and it isn't downloading anything. Meaning if you had a driver issue or some other Windows related issue, the likelihood that it will still persist after a reset is high. (It sure as hell did when I had graphic driver issues and Windows Update issues...)

It would be perfect if MS kept the install files somewhere on your drive, either in a recovery partition or hidden in the Windows folder, but that'd take an extra storage space, can't afford that, right.

That's like if you wrote a lot on a piece of paper and then proceeded to erase it all.. That paper is going to be stained, wrinkled and have marks of having been written on before afterward, it will never be back to a "perfect" blank state.

Alright thank you
