File Security Issue

Hi all,

In my virtual lab, I created a shared folder in a DC using windows server 2016.

 

Setup is like:

1. Shared folder.

    Security = Administrators

2.User Account (user 1)

   Member of = Administrators

 

as I understand, user 1 should be able to access the shared folder because Administrators (builtin group) is added to the folder while user 1 is member of Administrators. But when I access the file, it says no permission

 

What is the mistake of this setup?

That's what I did.

In the shared folder, the security group named Administrators (this is a builtin group created from ADDS) is added. Then the user is also a member of Administrators group

Try giving FC to the administrators. (full control) I can't replicate your issue in my virtual lab. FC always works for me

The buildin groups don't play ball when used a security groups for NTFS permissions.

Create a _Administrator groups, add the user to that group and add it to the file permissions henceforth.

If this is a network share, you need to make sure they also have permissions under the sharing tab. Windows acts a little weird with UAC and the "administrator" group, it's better if you create a group specifically for this share, and add the user to that group.

If you're using the UNC path \\mydc\share  then under the Sharing tab, give Administrators Full Access. 

 

Generally you just give full access under 'Sharing', then give the granular file/folder security under the 'Security' tab.
