Make something with GCODE

I use 2 programs, CURA 4.0 for 3d printing and Carbide Create for engraving etc. Both produce gcode for making 3d prints or cutting, carving or engraving with a Shapeoko 3 hobby CNC. Some of the more complicated items in either program can take a considerable time to calculate the gcode. Is the speed of these programs strictly governed by CPU speed or does ram or anything else come in to play. Thanks
