so, here is the dilemma. i have been using my gaming PC for 5 years now. never had issues with anything, runs any game good or bad and has (obviously) degraded over the time i have spent using it. i have taken a liking to vr and so i purchased an oculus rift etc etc. everything stayed the same blah blah  (just to note, i did buy myself a gtx 1050ti on release which i kept until 13 days ago). vr was not as smooth as it could be with just my 1050ti but was still enjoyable, nevertheless i still wanted that "better experience" and turned to eBay, where i scored a gtx 1070 founders for little under 200 pounds, installed it, cried like a baby while waiting for the drivers to install. all was fine until i tried vr. minor improvements. this is where i decided to finally do a full spec upgrade on my PC whilst at the same time going within my budget (student currently on EMA, you can guess how that plays out money wise). **im going for a used build**
oof
anyway, i sold my 1050ti and make a nifty 80 pounds (was in great condition :v) i now have an extra 80 lying about --> going toward pc cost. give it time and i can accumulate enough funds to get all i need, piece by piece. problem is that i cant find these pieces. which takes me to a few days back....Linus how on earth did you source these components...and where? im looking all over for them sweet deals >:(
at the moment im looking for a cpu, mostly for 7600k i5/i7, then onto ram (going for 16gb at least) then onto cooling. i currently have the 850w psu I've been rocking for all this time to keep me going progress so far is;
-asus prime z270-p (snagged for 45 pound)
-gtx 1070 (stated above)
-bunch of 120mm corsair red led fans w/8 way fan splitter (bundle i snagged for 30 from a friend)
-5 years worth of accumulated thermal paste and dust spray??? (cost probably something when i bought them)
-old 850w HEC Compucase G7 psu (old and running still :D
-Corsair spec 03 case (my old case, will continue to be my case, im keeping the 5 years worth of sticker bombing too)
-HDD's blah blah but also a brand new SSHD from sea-gate.
-some old cpu cooler that probably wont even fit an lga 1151 socket to be fair
-ton of cables
-copy of windows home linked to my account blah blah
and finally
-a 2m string of red LED's that i had under my bed for some reason.

im basically asking for help in the little fixes i can do to improve this "upgrade"  and so im turning to the tech "bros" blah blah etc etc because i can sentence properly don't worry.
all in all im planning on making a used lga1151 build suitable for vr... i should have just said that at the start but hey if you read this your thinking the same probably. :D

EDIT: forgot to add but i am not looking for links here, just advice and tips on sourcing these things, i.e upon new releases etc

EDIT2: i have sourced myself an intel i5 7600k that i sniped in a bid for little under 130 pounds, as well as that i managed to get hold of 16gb ddr4 ram by corsair for just under 60. im thinking of possible getting an m.2 ssd as a boot device as my hdd is again 5 years old and definitely slows me down. as for graphics, i dont exactly need anything but perhaps a second 1070 in sli would be a good investment as some point? if theres any thoughts on this please let me know :D

In some VR games having them on an SSD can make an improvement, so i would get a 120-240gb SSD, and have thew games you currently play on that.

my sshd handles all my games fine not going to lie, not too fussed about the loading or anything i just need a new cpu that will not hold me back ?

Maybe swap that psu too, just because it’s still running doesn’t mean it won’t fry your new components.

psu is running fine for now, always have my corsair 600w ready as a spare so hopefully that will keep the thing going :D
