What exactly do you mean by SSD to Micro SD? Do you mean a SATA Micro SD card adapter? Cause, if so, then that's just stupid, and maybe the pointlessness of it is the reason it doesn't exist.

Setting up a stationary small camera, video game consoles like the switch, raspberry pi setup. So I can think of a few things where an SSD card hanging outside wouldn't be inconvenient. Not to mention they have converters for USB which is just as "inconvenient".

if you think external SSDs are fine, stick to USB. Why use the SD port?

Not everything has a USB port, most new tech just use micro these days. At the moment SSD is just more affordable than micro. The 1TB micro sd that'll be out in april is going to be set at $450; a 1tb SSD is around $140 or less.

And most new tech that "just use micro" also are equipped with a USB C port. This type of setup is redundant

Ehm, USB Type B and C also count as USB. If you know of some devices that is still new, uses micro SD but doesnt have any USB connector, tell me. I'm interested in what that thing is.

Of course SD cards are more expensive per GB. They are physically smaller, so their storage capacity is more dense.

Even though USB A is being replaced by USB C and one can get USB A to USB C cables or adapters, McroSD slots can't be used to run an SSD because they don't have enough power at the port to run an SSD.

Oh you're all sooo smart who says that ssd to sd is pointless... Ok, I'll give u one case. What if I have sony a6400 camera which has only one option for internal storage - SD card. What if I want to grip an ssd to my camera cage and use it as a storage while i'm using micro-usb in the camera for external power? Seems quite convenient for me

That's still a pretty niche scenario, and microSD cards are available in very high capacities now. Also, you realize this thread is over two years old, right?

Interesting that not one person provided an actual answer to this and instead decided to be just condescending and question why you would want to do so.

I’m not sure why it doesn’t exist but considering that there are many devices that allow you to plug a microsd card into a sata or pcie device but never the other way around leads me to to believe that sd card readers simply don’t have that kind of flexibility and certainly the drivers are not programmed to handle something like that
