Hi,

My boss recently approached me and asked me to buy 2 PC's for our new showroom/reception area. I asked him for the reception table plans and noticed he hadn't left space for a tower anywhere. How budget per computer is around a thousand Canadian rubles. I'd like options, what computer/monitors should I get for him. I wouldn't mind assembling custom PC's myself but for work I'd kinda prefer a prebuilt system.

Also what I'd like to look into is maybe getting a server/desktop in the backroom and maybe some type of wired system (cat6 or thunderbolt) to to each work station. I like this idea as I could potentially use that server as well for our business applications servers (I currently run that on a 8gb VPS at OVH) and it might be more simple to add more stations later on. I believe Linus did a video on a similar system at one point and time but I can't find it.

Thanks for your opinions,

Trevor

Check out the offerings from Lenovo, Dell, and HP. Lots of choices available. The advantage is that support is provided by the manufacturer. In addition to SFF options there are pretty decent all in one stations that would resolve the space issue. See https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/desktops-and-all-in-ones/c/DESKTOPShttps://www.dell.com/en-ca/work/shop/dell-desktops-workstations/sc/desktops-n-workstations and https://store.hp.com/CanadaStore/Merch/List.aspx?sel=DTP&lang=en-CA

If possible, use WiFi to reduce clutter and provide flexibility in placement.

any preferences on size and noice?

i'll be here for custom, but you can use it as a baseline for prebuilt

The size... The smaller the better yet I don't want micro pc stuff. I have a 10" high ledge where I'd like to hide it behind. But if not possible then I also have 8 inches of space either side of our printer and then height is not a big issue. But I'd be running 8 feet of USB and HDMI.

The specs. Something that will run several accounting and invoicing software simultaneously without people complaining about slowdowns. (i5, 12gb ram, 240 GB SSD or 1 TB hardrive)

PC noise. I wouldn't worry about it. We can here the manufacturing area from the showroom. Just not some kind of turbo jet engine ?

I currently have a Dell in my office and a HP all-in-one in the adjacent one. I love the Dell but the all-in-one I find that you pay more then what you get. Correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm not impressed even though I know the HP was only $700

I don't disagree. The advantage of an all in one is the footprint. But more traditional boxes generally offer better value.

There are stands the mount the system unit sideways, behind the monitor; or under the monitor.
