when the cable is plugged into the gpu you get no display/signal on the screen. monitor says "no signal found" then goes to sleep. but it works if you use the on board video

Hmm onboard video being plugging it into the motherboard not the GPU, if it dosen't display anything at all. make sure IF it has a power connector it is 100% plugged in and also do the fans spin on the GPU or not?

Also try another PCI-E slot if the mobo has one.

a friend recently bought a pc and today he was playing apex and right after the tutorial the monitor went black and said no signal from the dvi cable. he said there wernt any visual glitches or anything and it was all fine till it happened.

here is a parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/anthony.kennedy/saved/#view=cbLWGX

the 3 gpu fans spin but the word "windforce" doesnt light up. maybe it over heated? (doubt it) maybe it doesnt have enough power? he did leave the pc just idle for 2 hours without a game running or anything on a fresh install of windows. the on board graphics do work though

hopefully you guys can help!

Download HWMonitor and test the gpu temps, also look up GPU symptoms on google and make sure it dosen't have any of them, as for the light not going on maybe it's broken or if it has a extra power connector it's not plugged in correctly?

If they spin then it might not be broken, also make sure when you're there that the bios is set to PCIE mode and not integrated, if you do all i said and it still won't display, try another monitor and dvi-e/hdmi/vga cable if you have spares.

if all else fails reset the CMOS/Jumper on the mobo and try it again.

ok turns out the power connectors wernt plugged in all the way... i overlooked that in my brain cause i thought that it would be common sense for people to notice you have to push that all the way in when installing. but i guess i dont have common sense to check that first either lmao. thanks for the help though!

Lucky, it might have been broken and that'd be alot worse, atleast your friend now knows to check if things are plugged in correctly, anyhow you're welcome.
