CPU compatibility

I'm working on my first PC build and collecting parts every month.

 

Have bought the Asus Prime A-320M K motherboard and planning to buy the Ryzen 5 2400G. But pcpartpicker is showing a compatibility issue- "Some AMD A320 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Raven Ridge CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions".

 

I don't have any other CPU with me.

Please help and give some recommendations for this.

See, the motherboard you are buying was made for 1st generation ryzen, so you will need a 1st gen ryzen cpu to update your bios.

But tbh, that motherboard is pretty crappy, you should buy a b450 motherboard. a320 motherboards are really bad

If you are lucky, the BIOS is already up to date, from factory.

If it isn't up to date, you don't have lots of options :

• Find a supported CPU (lent or buy a cheap one) and update the BIOS.
• Go to a local repair shop and make them update the BIOS (you'll have to pay them).

If you can afford it, a B450 would make life easier, and allow overclocking, which is very easy on ryzen. However, at this budget I imagine you're not really that free to choose. Some a320 boards support newer ryzen cpus out of the box, find the board's page and see if it advertises working with 2nd gen ryzen, or find if someone else has tried this. Tbh, at your budget, a ryzen 3 1200 and a gtx 1050 would work, as you could get slower, single channel memory without hindering much performance. If you go with an APU, get dual channel ram and overclock it, whether that's the 2200g or the 2400g
