I'm looking to replace my motherboard in my PC (HP Omen X), and I know that the back I/O is just an extension of the motherboard, but what about the front/side I/O (which is a part of the case)? How do those work? Do they connect to the motherboard? I'm looking to find a MicroATX board with an LGA1151 socket, but my side I/O has:

  • Separate Mic jack
  • Headphone/Mic combo audio jack with dedicated high performance amplifier and DTS Headphone X
  • 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type A (1 port with Fast Charging)
  • 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type C
  • 7-in-1 Media card reader

All of this was just copied off of their website.

Does it even retain to the motherboard? Just looking to find someone who can help explain how all this works.

Let me know if there's any info you need/want or if I should be looking at a different board. MicroATX is the only kind that fits (I think???) and LGA1151 is the socket size I would want in order to get an intel i7-8700K processor. If anyone has any other advice, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks! (Also, the two boards I currently have my eyes on is the ASUS TUF Z390M-Pro Gaming and the ROG STRIX Z370-G)

ASUS Z390 is shit. stay away. the Z370-G is alright, but a bit expensive. Go with MSI, GIGABYTE, EVGA (makes good mATX OC), ASRock, but not supermicro.

find one you like I like Z390M Gaming as it is great vrm for its price.

Awesome! Looking into the Z390 right now, and it looks great! Thanks for the help. Doesn't have support for USB-C though...
