I have a hp omen 15 with an i7 8750h. The laptop had pretty bad temps, I'm talking like min 83-85C while charging and 45C while on battery. So after searching on web I found out undervolting is the sol. so I downloaded XTU and set the core voltage offset to -0.120V and ran the stress test a couple of times. It worked out fine with no thermal throttling and good temps. But the it was showing "current limit" and "power limit" throttling. so then I saw a video where a guy was undervolting using throttlestop. I deleted XTU, rebooted the system and downloaded and ran throttlestop. but then I found out that certain sliders and buttons were not present as shown in the video.

so not taking risk I deleted throttlestop and downloaded XTU again. but after the offset to -0.120v and stresstesting, the temps were reaching 90C and system was thermal throttling. I selected from -0.80 to -0.135V and still the system was thermal throttling. but no current and power limit throttling. can someone help me cause im not understanding whats going on

A picture speaks a thousand words ;) Maybe what's happening is your throttling at a certain frequency and when you undervolt it allows the processor to run faster because it is more efficient but ultimately still uses the same power.

Don't forget to undervolt the cache too.

AWOL
