difference between these two m.2 drives?

Go to solution Solved by NunoLava1998,

960 PRO is about the same as the 970 EVO.

The pricing is so ridiculous is because that was what it costed when it was first launched a couple years ago, and they have not changed the price.

the drives in question:

Samsung 960 Pro- https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/960pro/

Samsung 970 Evo- https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/970evo/

okay so whats the deal with these two drives and why am i questioning the difference?

(i am looking at the 2tb versions of each here)

i am looking at the specs and so far they are pretty much identical (970 has a couple hundred MBPS write speeds higher than the 960)

the 960 is sold like absolutely nowhere except amazon where i can get it new for 1500 bucks which is mental compared to the 500 dollar 970

so is there any reason the pricing is so rediculous? Did i miss something in the specs that make it amazing or is it just tech prices being derp as per usual?

The 960 is older, so if the seller still uses old suggested retail prices it will generally be more expensive for the same storage capacity since 2TB SSD's used to be incredibly expensive.
Apart from that there is the Pro-Evo difference. Pro is Samsungs professional line, and those drives are usually a little bit faster and feature higher endurance. For any normal application the Evo will be better since they are a lot less expensive.

Being a DLC SSD instead of a TLC SSD like the 970 Evo also makes 960 Pro worth more, though not THAT much.
