Hi there

The problem is I can't switch my pc on by the power button or the motherboard power button. I have to switch my power supply on and off a few times to get it to turn on. I have the following specs;

i7-4790k

GTX 980ti

Corsair AX850w

16GB RAM

corsair air 540 case

ASUS vii Ranger

I think the rest not important

What i have tried;

1. using a different power cables

2. Plug into another outlet

3. Disconnect the front panel header and pressing the power button on the motherboard

4. Setting my pc to "ac power on" when power is restored to the pc. Unplugging the power cord from psu and back in to see if it works

None of this seems to work and still can't switch my pc on by motherboard power button or the case power button have to switch my pc off and on a few times for it to boot up and once it's on it works just fine no issues with my pc whatsoever. Hope you guys can help. The one thing i haven't tried is changing PSU but I don't have another one to test and also none of my friends has one that I can borrow.

Sounds like definitely your PSU that is faulty.

best would be to test with another PSU to be honest.

If you unplug all peripherals like hard drives etc does it have the same issue?

To make sure nothing is shorting your board in your case you can see if it posts outside of the chassis. So take the board out and put it on a box, plug in the PSU only and try powering it on.

to check that your PSU isn’t acting up / dead (which is weird as it is powering up) you can do the paper clip test.

Unplug it from the wall and switch it to Zero. Take a ppaperclip and plug it into pin16 and any other black pin. Plug it in Switch the power supply to 1. Does it come on first time?

ok a quick google suggest that the AX850w had some issues that i described above. People also had to switch there psu off and on a few times for it to power on. I'm from South Africa so will wait for the new AX line 80+ titanium series to come in stock and upgrade to that.

This is not a major issue and can live with it for now just maybe thought other people had the same issue and knows how to fix it. I will maybe test what you described or just wait and upgrade to another psu.
