okay so i have a 7200 rpm 2tb hdd thats never been used before but it has windows 10 pro on it would i be able to use that on a new computer build? and if so how would i be able to? ive been asking others if they knew if i could or not and i havent found much about it on google so i am quite curious if it would work or if it would fry everything or something i dont want to waste any money on a new Win 10 key if i could avoid doing that hence why i am asking since this is a tech community

If you link the Windows product key on that HDD to your Microsoft account, you won't need to reactivate it.

There's an option in the Settings to link your Windows install to your Microsoft account.

i dont think i have those options neither of my computers are 100% up to date with windows my laptops 5 years old and my desktops from 2004 lol

What are you planning on doing with this computer?  64gb of Ram is generally overkill for most applications and you part list also includes a SSD and HDD as well as a windows key which is a rip off no matter how you look at it.  Legit windows keys can be purchased for $10 to $20 all day long.  It looks like a great build list though, the monitor is likely the weakest link in my opinion.  I would save your money and buy 32 or even just 16gb of ram and put that money into a better monitor if your interest is gaming.  Just my opinion tho.

my intent on this build is for it to be a streaming and gaming pc and be able to upgrade it into a ripper pc way down the line lol hence the ram i wanna be able to transfer it over and have those extra sticks of ram incase something goes wrong that way i dont have to wait for a replacement or anything i can just swap out the stick and i have the windows key there just in case if i need to buy that instead and idk where to get a new windows key for that much i do have windows already installed on an unused HDD thats windows 10 my question is just if i can use that windows 10 installation and my current key on the new pc or if i would have to swap it out entirely i also intend on doing video editing and more with the pc as well buut thats all just side stuff my main focus is streaming and gaming and ive been told 32 gigs is all i need at most but i wanna prepare for the future not now because wat happens if something happens ya know?

also could u find me a better monitor then i intend on shipping one over from the us as thats actually cheaper somehow.... same with the ram also cheaper by over 100

To be fair, your lack of punctuation is extremely distracting and may prevent people who would otherwise help you from even attempting.

You mention streaming and gaming... do you mean live streaming, as in broadcasting something you are doing?  Or do you mean streaming as in TV, Movies, or LTT videos?  If you mean anything besides creating your own content to upload to youtube, I still contend that your ram is way overkill.  16gb is more than enough for gaming at this time.  

 

you also mentioned "upgrading it into a ripper PC".  If you mean upgrading to a threadripper processor I hope you know that you will need to replace the motherboard as well.  Going from AM4 to threadripper is not a direct upgrade path.  If a "ripper PC" is just some hip adjective I am too old to know about I am sorry, excuse my ignorance.  Also a threadripper processor is NOT needed for live streaming if that is what you wish to do. A 2600X or 2700X is more than enough to do that in most circumstances.

 

My conclusion at this time is 64gb of ram is overkill unless you are encoding tons and tons of HD or 4k video and frankly a waste of money unless that is your intent.  However, if it is, you should definitely reconsider your storage options because 500gb boot disc and 2tb storage is NOTHING if you plan on getting into some serious video encoding.  One hour of 4k video is roughly 110gb. So on your proposed storage, you could hold less than 20 hours of raw footage in 4k.

okay im not really asking for an upgrade or any changes to my computer build as its wat it is for a specific reason and considering this is the internet and not some paper i have to write for university i do not really care about punctuation if i did you would see it also i have spare HDDs that i intend on using for space as well my question was can i use windows 10 thats installed on a 2TB 7200 rpm HDD on any computer build that i may use i like my build as it is and i intend on keeping it that way unless i need to change it so please refrain from trying to change my specific build as i am quite happy with it and feel free to leave my topic as trolls are not welcome i asked a simple question and id rather not get bothered by a couple of trolls that think now is a great time to harass someone thats looking for genuine help. and as for being rude i will gladly be so if you intend on coming into this post with the purpose of being a troll

You know?  Honestly you are lucky anyone is taking the time to read your middle school level bull Sh*t.  You level of laziness with leaving out punctuation makes you look even less educated than your hardware choices and for you to call me a troll just seals the deal.  I am genuinely trying to help you here.  I have been building computers for nearly 20 years and although I am new here, I am far from a noob.  I suggest you take the advice that is given and just know that I will NOT be reading another one of your rants without punctuation.

 

Can you boot windows 10 off of a 2tb 7200rpm drive?  Of course.  Does it make sense in the context of you having an SSD?  no.  You will lose a TON of performance booting from a standard hard drive rather than an SSD.  But will it work?  yes.  I would generally advise against using used or old hard drives if you value your data... but that is just my opinion.  Now your 6 line rant once again lacking punctuation did not answer my question, but I guess it doesn't matter.  You seem to have come asking for advice yet not really wanting any.  So yes, you can use that drive to  boot windows....

 

I still contend that your hardware choices are foolish but you seem to have that all figured out.  Good luck
