Help with build please

I have a few questions regarding my build

 

Build 

Asus Maximus 9 Apex

Intel Core i7 7700k LGA 1151

Corsair Vengace RGB pro DDR4 3200mhz

WD Blue m.2 2280 

Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black edition

 

So the first question

 

My heat sink fan was stepping over my new ram

Thus i had to move the heatsink fan to the left and not the usual right side

I made sure to follow air flow thus since the fan went to the left the fan had to be flip over.

Is a heat sink fan positioned to the left side ok?

First time I had to do this on a build.

Second question

I have a new m.2 drive than I want to install windows 10 on via usb

I don't see the drive when it comes time to choose a drive to install windows on

I know there might be a  bios setting but I'm not sure which one.

My mobo is Asus Maximus 9 Apex and the m.2 does not attach to the mobo direct but to a dimm 2 slot next to the ram.

My bios is up to date but still, windows won't find the drive.

 

last question

My ram is corsair vengeance rgb pro 3200 MHZ DDR4 2 x 8 gb

In my bios I see Capacity 16384 MB - voltage 1.200 v and frequency 2133mhz.

Should this be at 3200mhz and not 21333 mhz ??? do I need to change something in the bios? I figured this would be auto detected?

Fan is fine on left, just adjust airflow as you did.

 

Why not just use a SATA SSD?  You wouldn't have to use that ghetto method.

 

Turn XMP on for your RAM to be at 3200.

Well I figured if I have a new pc I might as well buy an m.2 drive to see what the fuss is about

Should have done more research cuz there isn't much fuss for most people.  Is it an NVMe or SATA version?

 

SATA M.2 drives are the same as the SATA 2.5" drives.  NVMe is faster technically but real world it doesn't provide that speed for those who don;'t transfer huge files like content creators and the like.

In which case a SATA 2.5" SSD would give virtually identical performance... Though having said that; since you've already bought the M.2, try re-fitting it. It's an easy mistake to make to fit it below the socket while thinking you pushed it into the socket. Make sure that it's fitted properly.

Your CPU cooler will work fine in that fan configuration; although it's not the optimum configuration suggested by the engineers.

Now im doing some reading so they are two types of m.2 if I understand.

m,2 sata and m,2 NVME

right?

 

I have the mobo Asus Maximus 9 Apex possible it supports both types or just one and i have purchased the wrong m.2???

I think it's under the Extreme Tweaker tab, scroll down.

・ 1 x M.2 2230~22110 (PCIe 3.0 x4 + SATA)

・ 1 x M.2 2230~22110 (PCIe 3.0 x4)

 

Shows that it'll fit almost any size M.2 (30 to 110 mm) in the DIMM 2 slot like you're doing. Just reseat it first and see it that helps, as was mentioned.

 

Correction:  Looks like only 1 of the slots can support a SATA M.2, make sure you use the right one, if I read that right.

omg that worked moving to the other side

so if i understand right the asus apex 9 used a dimm 2 slot instead of mounting the m.2 on the mobo.

then that dimm 2 slot has two sides, one sata and one nvme??? ty for the help pc is now installing windows 10
