Hi guys, what is the difference between standard and DCH graphics driver ?

I already checked Nvidia website to download the latest driver for my MSI GTX 1070 ti Gaming, then found 2 choices for drivers standard vs DCH ?

What is the difference between both of them? which one should i download??

My PC specs:

- core i5 8400 with B360 AORUS Gaming 3 and RAM 16GB(2x8GB), I'm running windows 10 Pro 64-bit latest version 1809.

Just go with standard driver. DCH driver's are more for OEM Systems. it doesn't provide anything extra

it seems that DCH is an intel IG driver but i would recommend you get the GTX 1070ti driver. (from Geforce XP)

  • 5 months later...

So I had the same scenario today on my new Asus laptop as Adobe Premiere CC prompted me to update my Nvidia 1070 MaxQ driver in order to play well with CUDA in Premiere.

The solution is simple and elegant.

Go to https://www.nvidia.com/content/geforce-gtx/GTX_1070_User_Guide.pdf

On page 12 see this:

GeForce Experience Software Installation

1 Download and install GeForce Experience software.

• Go to http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience/download and click Download Now.

• Accept the NVIDIA software license agreement by selecting Agree and Continue. GeForce Experience software begins to install.

• Select Close to finish the installation.

2 Optimize your installed games.

• Open GeForce Experience and click Scan for Games and click OK to scan your installed games.

• Click on Optimize All to optimize your game settings.

3 Install the latest drivers.

• Open NVIDIA® GeForce® Experience and select the Drivers tab.

• Select Download Driver. Your GPU driver begins to download.

• Select Express Installation when the download finishes. GeForce Experience begins to install the graphics driver.

NOTE: If you're a video editor or content creator like me, then in step 3 above you should download the Studio Driver and not Game Ready Driver. The Experience control panel will by default pop up a tool tip to alert you and show you where to select your driver preference, but it's on the top right by clicking the three vertical dots.

@AnWayfarer Really thank so much for this useful information, it was really helpful to me.

I have some stuff to say regarding this: i have figured out that there's no way to detect if your system needs the standard driver or the DCH driver, i'm not sure from this but i think the most newer versions of windows 10 requires the DCH driver while older ones requires the standard driver..

When i first installed windows 10 version 1809 for the 1st time (installed in December 2018), i checked NVIDIA website, didn't find the option standard vs DCH, just chose my Graphics Card, Windows 10 64-Bit then downloaded the driver to find it the standard one.

Later after 2 months (Feb 2019), i had to re-install my windows 10 version 1809 again, checked NVIDIA website again to find that option there (Standard VS DCH), i just chose Standard then went ahead to find it saying its not compatible with my system (strange, right??), then downloaded the DCH one and it got installed successfully.

After 1 month (March 2019), i had again to re-install my windows 10 version 1809 due to some issues, but this time found that windows 10 update automatically downloaded some driver for me, it was a little old since December 2018, but its ok for me as its still supporting the new games, i found that driver is DCH one. ( and i'm still running this till this moment).

In the last 2 weeks on another HDD of mine, i installed windows 10 version 1709 (old one), downloaded Standard driver from NVIDIA website, and it got installed successfully.

Its so sad to say that's there's no way to detect which driver (Standard vs DCH) is compatible with your system, you have to download each one separately and test it, but for now i think GeForce Experience is the best way to download the compatible driver for your system, so thanks to you so much for this info, and i hope my info provided here will be useful for you and others.

Till this moment i really have no idea what is the difference between Standard and DCH drivers, all i figured out from my experience is that DCH is a new method for newer windows 10 versions and maybe the next windows OSs later.

And sorry for this long discussion.
