Hi, so this is a follow-up to this post where I concluded that it might have just been a part of the map that causes some glitches, and that it was not my hardware.

I just played The Initial, a hack-and-slash on Steam this morning and the same occurence just happened, where my monitor would cut signal out, and my PC would ramp up its fans to the maximum.

Hi, so I was just playing Euro Truck Simulator 2 and I keep blacking out whenever I visit a specific part of Euro Truck Simulator 2.

I was roaming around Calais and every time I go near the Eastern area, my PC fans ramp up and my monitor shows no signal, however my audio remains intact.

  • Specs on first 'crash' - 8600K 4.7GHz 1.75V
    • I thought this blacking out was just a fluke, so I replayed ETS 2 like normal.
  • Same specs for second 'crash'
    • It was at this point I thought I should probably downclock a little on my CPU - 4.6GHz 1.15V
  • The third crash is when I gave up.

If it makes any difference, my graphics card, the Asus Dual GTX 1060 3GB, is factory overclocked to 1900MHz and 4000MHz on the memory.

This is the first time I've experienced this amount of consistent crashing occuring, so could I get some advice on how to combat it?

I experienced all the same symptoms so at this point, I'm stuck at the crossroads on where to go from here.

In fairness, I haven't tried playing The Initial again as of this post, and it does seem like a fairly unoptimised game, I was running max settings and it gave me 30-40FPS.

it does sound like your gpu driver crashing, try maxing out your gpu fans and underclock that gpu to 1600mhz (if you can). In theory if its temperature or VRM related this should make it last longer but if its not this should change nothing at all

Have you tried reinstalling your GPU drivers?

I've not tried re-installing drivers, but I've noticed there's a new Nvidia driver update available so I'll download that and see if that ammends my black screen of death. :(

If you can try to erase your current drivers with DDU, then try to install the newest drivers.

When you are reinstalling the drivers just go to Advanced and tick the little "Perform a clean install" box.

Not sure if it's as good as DDU but, it's faster for sure.

I'd also try setting the graphics to the lowest and, disabling any and all overclocks (CPU, RAM as well) you never know.

Did this happen before you added the two extra RAM sticks? If I remember correctly it wasn't all that long ago.

I'll be sure to run slightly less aggressive overclocks, and even underclock if I need to, could be my motherboard for all I know, thing's a piece of junk.

I had blacking out before the two extra RAM sticks, can't think that would be the main reason.

what's your monitor resolution, it could be switching back to forth and try clearing the cmos, with the 4 ram sticks in, test the system out in stock speeds to see if it works

2560x1080 ultrawide. I can't image it would want to be switchign back and forth like that.

I'm testing stock speeds as well as underclocking my CPU as we speak, and I'm also looking into underclocking my GPU from its factory OC slightly to give it some breathing room.
