So I had an old Windows CD key usb lying around that I wanted to use, but when I tried to reformat it, it gave me a write protect error. So I tried REGEDIT and Diskpart, but both methods didnt work to remove the device's write protect. Is there anything else that can be done or do I just have to trash it?

If there Is I cant seem to find one on it. Its a pretty sleek stick

Maybe the purpose of this stick is just to be used with what it came. Maybe the NAND-Flash modules would not even survive lots of rewrites so maybe its a protection because the stick was not meant to be used as mobile storage device and the manufacturer saves few cents per stick. If you don´t need it try open it and see if there are options.
