Hey guys, I'm looking at a few B450 series MOBO options in the $70-90 range. ATX or Micro ATX are compatible.

My hardware: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/trevb0t/saved/rPmtgs

With the 6 core R5 2600 I don't think I'll be pushing any of the low end boards too hard. Especially since I really don't plan overclocking (aside from maybe a few initial benchmarks to see how it runs.)

That said: Newegg has a combo https://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.3845697&Description=ryzen 5 2600 with an ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS GAMING which adds an extra $15 off of the price tag. While this MOBO is at the top end of my range, this puts it pretty squarely in the price zone I want.

I've heard great things about the BIOS on this board, but I've heard plenty of negative about it as well. (And in this way, none of the low cost B450's are a clear winner.)

Thoughts on the TUF vs say... MSI B450M PRO, ASROCK B450M PRO, etc.

since for mild OC, it doesnt matters that much, larger heatsink / any ports preference?

I'd prefer Tuf or asrock, depends on colour theme

Thus far everything I've got will work nicely with B&W color scheme. The only stand out on the TUF is the yellow branding decal, but it's small enough it won't upset the motif (especially since pre-ram, it was purely accidental.) I think it would be cool to do some blacklight in there at some point, though.

I'd buy the Asrock Pro4. It's cheap, and it works well. Asus overcharges their board as usual, Gigabyte has thermal throttling VRMs, MSI has less features than Asrock (no RGB header, some has less I/O ports at the back)

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Model: HP Omen 17 17-an110ca CPU: i7-8750H (0.125V core & cache, 50mV SA undervolt) GPU: GTX 1060 6GB Mobile (+80/+450, 1650MHz~1750MHz 0.78V~0.85V) RAM: 8+8GB DDR4-2400 18-17-17-39 2T Storage: HP EX920 1TB PCIe x4 M.2 SSD + Crucial MX500 1TB 2.5" SATA SSD, 128GB Toshiba PCIe x2 M.2 SSD (KBG30ZMV128G) gone cooking externally, 1TB Seagate 7200RPM 2.5" HDD (ST1000LM049-2GH172) left outside Monitor: 1080p 126Hz IPS G-sync

Desktop benching:

Cinebench R15 Single thread:168 Multi-thread: 833

SuperPi (v1.5 from Techpowerup, PI value output) 16K: 0.100s 1M: 8.255s 32M: 7m 45.93s

Even if, with the deal the TUF is actually a few bucks cheaper than the ASROCK PRO?

I'd still go Pro4 because the cooling is better and has 1 more USB 3.1 Gen 1 (was called USB 3.0). At least it's no longer a clear choice.

There's two rgb headers and 2 less USB on the back but makes up for it with an extra USB 3 header compared to the asrock.  (comparing the two the OP mentioned)  You do lose out a bit on transfer speeds with the msi though, they're Gen 1 and the asrock is gen 2.

I'd go with the msi b450m mortar over the gaming though.  Generally regarded as the best vrm out of all b450m boards.

outside price range though? Mortar is near $100 (currently out of stock)

Oh damn, didn't realize they were so scarce.  I got the titanium version in December and the normal version was all over pcpp (in Canada) for $120 (100ish USD so not much over budget).  Now there's only one link in Canada and none in the states ? and it's $130

The combo deal is pretty tempting but if it was me I'd still get the msi.
