Hello people,

i just bought new ram to upgrade from two sticks ( 1 crucial ddr4 4gb 2133 and 1 crucial ddr4 4gb 2400) to 16gb ram ( 1 crucial ddr4 4gb 2133 and 3 crucial ddr4 4gb 2400). But when i installed my 2 new modules the aren't recognised in windows in the bios it said 16gb. All the modules are working so as all the connectors on my motherboard. And in pairs of two they all work fine but not when there all in the system. I dont know what to do and i hope someone can help me with this i will apreciated it and give the solution a reward on paypal or something else if you want.

We work for free on LTT, please change the title to something like "new ram doesn't work" (also not all caps pls, I don't like being shouted at)

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Install a single module into the first DIMM slot, see if it powers on/boots.  Repeat this test for each DIMM slot on the board.

If DIMM slots are 1-4, test with a single module installed in slot 1, then move that to slot two, then slot 3, and finally slot 4.

Report your findings.

I wish some of the people who gave support here would do it for work, then I could feel like calling customer support would actually do something helpful most of the time lol.

Also, if you want other users to see your responses, use the quote button, or @ them. Welcome!

Thanks for your reaction, i tried it but every module worked in every dimm slot.

Are you testing with only one module installed or just throwing all the modules into the system and shuffling them around?

The reason I ask is that it sounds like you have a non-functional DIMM slot.

OH.  You need to manually set the timings.  I missed the 1x2133/3x2400 split you mentioned in your post.

The 2400 modules are running at timings/speeds that the 2133 module does not work at.  This is why Windows does not see the memory, the 2133 module is producing errors/not syncing (AKA training) with the CPU.

All memory modules are required to run at the same speed/timings.

i dont understand because it was running with 1 2400 mhz and 1 2133 mhz already in the system and that worked perfectly.

Because they were in different channels,  which means different signals to the CPU.  Now the 2133 stick is sharing a set of signals with a 2400 stick.

when i am in the bios i cant change the frequenty.

If your board does not support memory tuning, you will have to leave the 2133 stick out.  Always, always, always use same speed memory to prevent running into this problem.

You will have to experiment with the system memory timings/voltages/speeds to see if you can get it to work.  Best place to start is manually configuring the timings to match the 2133 stick and slowing the 2400 sticks down.

Disable "voltage optimization" and set memory speed to 2133 in BIOS.

After going through the manual for your MB...

That motherboard does not have ANY memory tuning settings. If 2133 does not work, your only recourse is to update the BIOS to the latest version and hope that fixes it.

If the board had settings for memory, you could fix it with some patience and tweaking.  I forget how stripped down low end Gigabyte motherboards are, the ASUS boards I have that are similar still have full user control over memory settings.
