Hey everyone, I just recently purchased an MSI b450 gaming pro carbon and an R5 2600. Got the Mobo for $140, were there any other good options in terms of VRM quality and cooling at the same price or lower?

The next option in my mind would have been the aorus gaming 7 which I think is too much mobo for a 2600 that I don't plan on doing crazy OCs with(Also is about $100 more than the b450 pro carbon.) I plan on keeping the CPU at stock or minimal OC.

Probably this one is a better one for 140$ in regards of VRM: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bWdFf7/gigabyte-ga-ax370-gaming-5-atx-am4-motherboard-ga-ax370-gaming-5

The B450 Gaming Pro Carbon has a 4-phase VRM that's made specifically to look like an 8-phase... It's nowhere near an 8-phase and it'd be better if MSI used this money for improving actual VRM performance instead. But for a 6-core CPU that will be overclocked a bit, you're fine with that board.

Asrock X370 Taichi. Sadly X470 Taichi has cut a few features because Asrock wants to create a new name called the Taichi Ultimate, which as far as I'm concerned is functionally the same as the X370 Taichi while the X470 Taichi loses some user friendly features like buttons for CMOS reset and on/off.

Gigabyte X370 Gaming 5 is arguably a better board, but I think it's a "different" board rather than a "better" board.

but MSI B450 Carbon has 8 sets of decent mosfets while Gigabyte only has 6 sets. They also run at a lower switching frequency. VRM cooling on the Gaming 5 is especially disgusting. I don't think these two will differ much in actual performance.

Perhaps, but it's not a given that those 8 sets (instead of 4 quality ones) are actually of any benefit. This is especially true for the ASRock X470 Master SLI for example, it has double the components like inductors etc. but the board's VRM doesn't perform any better because of that, it'd be a lot better if they used higher-quality components instead...

Which Gaming 5 board do you mean? There are two of them actually, with the one that I linked being the better one:

MSI's 4C024 + 4C029 match is much better than Master SLI (and all Asus and Gigabyte's B450/X470 low end and mid range boards) 4C06 and 4C09 pair. I'm not sure how 8 pair of these in 4 phase config match up with the Gaming 5's 6 IR3553 though. I know MSI one has greater current ratings, I'm just not sure which one is more efficient at say, pushing a R5 2600 and whether a 6 phase design's lower voltage ripple means better overclocking than a 4 phase with higher switching frequency (300KHz versus 450KHz)

The one with white PCH heatsink and plastic. The black one is just a 4 phase so I know which one you're talking about. As you can see, the stupid I/O cover has covered up at least 75% the upper surface of the heatsink for the Vcore VRM, as if the heatsink's design of making heat travel a long distance to reach that surface isnt bad enough

The one you linked for $140 is out of stock on Neweggbusiness and over $200 on regular newegg website. Also it's an X370 so I have the chance of my Zen+ chip not working without a flash. I think I picked the right choice. Also has wifi if I ever decide to take it anywhere.

i mean.. im using the msi b450 gaming pro carbon ac with my 2600x and have it currently oc at 4.1 on all cores.

so you certainly have a good board for that chip :)
