Speed rarely coexists with reliability. However,

If your main concern is power failures, you've already taken the SSD route which will greatly improve your odds of your windows install surviving a random power outage, as it's much easier and faster for the registry to write to the hive.

Here's a video by Tech Yes City on StoreMI, and here's an overview of PrimoCache and how it works.

I believe both technologies simply copy over frequently used data as opposed to moving it, so if you're worried about data fragmentation it shouldn't be an issue.

Never dismiss a possible solution because of a respected brand.

To my understanding StoreMI does move data between slow and fast devices. You get to keep the combined capacity of the devices involved. If either device fails, you can't easily recover data from the other device.

A good write up at: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12625/amd-second-generation-ryzen-7-2700x-2700-ryzen-5-2600x-2600/7

PrimoCache does sound like a cacheing structure, with frequently accessed data being copied and to the faster tier for access. I believe it has optional write caching. As long as that is off, I think it is no worse than running a HD by itself. With write cache enabled, there is some risk if the SSD were to fail then data would not make it to HD and be lost, but otherwise the HD is still usable.

Well put, thank you for clearing that up.

that would mean StoreMI would require re-partitioning while PrimoCache would work with his existing situation. PrimoCache would also have the benefit of in the case of a drive failure, the original data (even if not up to date) would still remain on the HDD.

My vote is either Primocache or just install your frequently played games/accessed files on the 250GB SSD. I don't see the benefit of moving video files since once they're playing as long as the HDD feeds 24 frames a second you should have no problem.

I don't have 1st hand experience in how it works, but in the previously linked article was an AMD slide that said "can be installed or reversed at any time". I don't know how it does that though, probably involving converting formats and moving data around.
