How do I change the refresh rate in Final Fantasy XV (15)???

Gypopotamus

So I'm using the Wasabi Mango UHD430 (4k 120hz HDR etc - it's great btw), but the monitor will only run with 10bit colour (for proper HDR) in 96hz or below. At 120hz it will work in HDR, but will only use 8bit colour.

Final Fantasy defaults to 120hz and there doesn't seem to be any way to change it in-game or in .ini files. Any Ideas?

Thanks

Set a custom resolution and refresh rate in Nvidia control panel and apply it?

Yes, that is how it is my friend.  I have even tried to overclock my refresh rate to like 62hz and I lose my 10bit and only option in nvpanel is 8bit.  As soon as I change it back to 60hz the 10bit is available and also works when you set it, instead of reverting back to 8bit.  So ya perhaps the monitor you have is a overclocked refresh rate monitor ?

My refresh rate in Windows is already 96. Issue is the game has no refresh rate option.

I don't want to run it at 120, I just want to run it at 96 or 60 so I can have the 10bit colour, but there's no option to reduce the refresh rate in game :/

Yes games do not have that option 99 percent of games. lol.  You want a refresh rate you must adjust it in windows nvpanel.  Like Jurrunio said go to nvpanel then chang eresolution and you will see customize button,, hit that and set your refresh you want and resolution you want and your set.

Reason it jumps to 120hz is because its not using the proper resolution and refresh you choose.  So before you launch the game you must changed the resolution to what you set and the custom refresh as well.  So if your using 1440p desktop.  Before you launch game go to change resolution and pick the correct one with the refresh rate you choose.  Your not having a problem, this is a bs uncle billy booolsht*T.  So in desktop change to Final Fantasy resolution and refresh from change resolution in nvpanel,, good luck...

Well pretty much every game I've ever played allows me to set the refresh rate either in game or in .ini files.

Making a custom resolution will not make any difference, as the game is detecting the highest refresh rate available and using that - which is 120hz, which does not use 10bit colour - so the only way to make it work is to force it to run at a lower refresh rate - this works fine in BF5, in Hitman 2, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, in Forza Horizon 4, in Star Wars Battlefront 2, even in PUBG!

I'm just asking if there is a way to change the refresh rate for Final Fantasy XV, or a way to force it.

I see, my friend... Problem is I have never played FF in my life so I don't know much about that game or whether or not you can go to a ini file or something like this.  Youl will get more responses and probably a response from a FF gamer so hang in there well sort it out.  Im so sorry I couldn't fix this for you.

Yeah you can change the frame rate limit, but not the refresh rate the game runs at.

Dude, honestly these are limitations.  If you want HDR you sacrifice the refresh rate.  This is normal.  So long everything on your desktop is "A" ok and other games are "A" ok then IMO you do not have a problem.  Can I ask what cable you are using ?

then maybe set a frame rate cap with software like RTSS?

The only 10-bit fix to this game is to turn on borderless in Display. I have the PG27UQ and that was the only option that would work with 10 bit HDR at 98Hz.

I run Skyrim SE at 50hz on my 4K TV, but Skyrim doesn't care and runs at 60hz anyway. So to get the game to use that I set Windows to 50hz, open the game (which overrides and runs at 60hz), alt-tab to desktop and then back to the game and voilà! Skyrim at 50hz.

You could try that method.
